“SOWORE WILL BE PRESIDENT” — SOWORE DECLARES AS DSS MOVES TO PAUSE CYBERCRIME CASE UNTIL AFTER 2027
ABUJA — African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted strongly to the reported decision by the Department of State Services (DSS) to seek an adjournment of the cybercrime case against him until after the 2027 presidential election.
The DSS has reportedly directed its counsel, Akinolu Kehinde, SAN, to approach the Federal High Court for an adjournment of the case. According to reports, the proposed suspension would allow Sowore to participate fully in the 2027 presidential election without the ongoing court proceedings interfering with his campaign.
The case arose from social media posts published by Sowore in August 2025 in which he referred to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “criminal.” The DSS subsequently approached the Federal High Court seeking judicial determination of whether such a description constituted an offence under Nigeria's cybercrime laws.
Reacting to the development, Sowore delivered a blunt message to the DSS, saying the agency would not be able to continue pursuing the case after the 2027 election.
«“You won’t be taking my case anywhere after the 2027 election because both Bola Tinubu, on whose behalf you instituted these ridiculous charges, and Tosin Ajayi, the deeply insecure DG of the DSS who initiated these farcical cybercrime charges against me, will be gone after the election.”»
Sowore further accused the government of political persecution and the abuse of state institutions against political opponents.
He declared that, under his leadership, what he described as the weaponisation of public institutions would come to an end.
«“The political persecution will end, the abuse of state institutions will end, and those who weaponized public institutions against political opponents will have to answer for their actions.”»
Sowore then connected the development directly to his 2027 presidential ambition, declaring:
«“After the 2027 election, Sowore will be the President of Nigeria. No going back!”»
DSS DECISION TO PAUSE THE CASE
The reported DSS decision comes after months of legal proceedings over the cybercrime allegations.
According to reports, DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi met with the agency’s senior legal officials and its counsel on August 20, 2026, where the possibility of suspending the case was considered. The stated rationale was to allow Sowore, who is contesting the 2027 presidential election, to participate fully in the electoral process.
The Federal High Court is expected to formally receive the DSS position when regular proceedings resume on September 14, 2026, following the annual judicial vacation.
SOWORE DEMANDS MORE FROM DSS
Sowore has not presented the development as a reason to back down. Instead, he has demanded that the DSS withdraw the case completely and apologise for what he describes as an abuse of state power.
He has also demanded the return of his seized phones and other electronic devices, as well as compliance with financial penalties imposed against the agency by the courts.
For Sowore and his supporters, the latest development is being portrayed as another chapter in his long-running confrontation with Nigeria's security establishment.
The AAC candidate has maintained that the case is politically motivated, while the DSS has said the proceedings were intended to obtain judicial interpretation of whether publicly describing the President or another individual as a “criminal” constitutes an offence.
2027 NOW AT THE CENTRE OF THE CONFRONTATION
With the 2027 presidential election approaching, Sowore is positioning the development as part of a wider political struggle over the use of state institutions and the treatment of opposition candidates.
His latest statement makes his position unmistakable: he intends to contest the 2027 election and believes his political movement will replace the current political establishment.
“After the 2027 election, Sowore will be the President of Nigeria.”
For the Sowore movement, the message is clear: the legal battle may be paused, but the political battle is far from over.
