POV: Middle school is over & you’re officially heading to High School !! 👨🏾🎓
As you know A was homeschooled for 12 years (he’s 13 now), & when we moved to Nigeria, he went from homeschool to boarding school. Quite the transition right - one which he handled so well by the way!💪🏾
He completed Y9 in a British Boarding School 25/26 school year, which is equivalent to the 8th Grade & now he’s heading to Year 10 a.k.a. 9th Grade 🇺🇸 a.k.a. SS1 🇳🇬 a.k.a Form 4 🇨🇲 a.k.a. Troisième 🇫🇷 - 😂 depending on what school system you’re familiar with.
Even though A attends a British school, because we are working with the U.S. system (he wants to attend Uni in the U.S. vs Europe), I want to ensure to keep the milestones similarly aligned, hence the graduation. 👨🏾🎓 . Also because the plan is for him to complete 12th grade in the U.S. - let’s see how things go. Life can change fast, but that’s the plan for now!
We usually just have a small celebration at home, take photos & then go out & do something as a family. We did the same for his elementary school graduation as well.
The British educational system is quite different from the U.S. and here’s how:
UK 🇬🇧 - Primary School Y1 to Y6, Secondary School Y7 to Y11 and Sixth Form Y12 to Y13.
U.S. 🇺🇸 - Elementary School Grade 1-5/6, Middle School / Junior High - Grade 6/7 to 8 and High School Grade 9 to 12.
This graduation is important to us because I want to ensure that he has these memories and photos to look back on and also for him to understand this new HS chapter!
Overall, I’m just so proud of him and how well he’s done at school and more! High school here we go. 🎉
