Chapter 17: Someone From His Past
“The blood…”
A pause.
“…belongs to someone Adrian knows.”
Zara's stomach twisted.
“What does that mean?”
The man looked uncomfortable.
“That's all I was told.”
Before she could ask another question—
A voice echoed from the hallway.
“Leave us.”
Adrian.
Cold.
Controlled.
The man nodded immediately and walked away.
Zara turned toward Adrian.
The moment she saw his face—
Her heart dropped.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
His expression was calm.
Too calm.
“What happened?” she asked.
He didn't answer immediately.
Instead—
He handed her a photograph.
Zara looked down.
And froze.
A woman.
Beautiful.
Elegant.
Covered in blood.
Her breath caught.
“Who is she?”
Adrian's jaw tightened.
For a moment—
He looked somewhere far away.
Like he was seeing another time.
Another life.
Then he finally spoke.
“Her name is Sophia.”
Silence.
Heavy silence.
Zara looked at him carefully.
The way he said her name.
The way his eyes changed.
And suddenly—
A terrible thought entered her mind.
“Who is she to you?”
Adrian didn't answer.
Not immediately.
Then—
“The woman I was supposed to marry.”
The world stopped.
Zara stared at him.
Unable to breathe.
Unable to think.
“What?”
His eyes remained on the photograph.
“She disappeared three years ago.”
A chill ran through Zara.
“You told me you weren't engaged.”
“I wasn't.”
A pause.
“Not anymore.”
Her heart pounded.
Because suddenly—
Everything felt different.
Daniel's words came rushing back.
You really think meeting him tonight was an accident?
Fear crept into her chest.
Slow.
Cold.
“Adrian…”
He finally looked at her.
And for the first time—
She saw pain.
Real pain.
“The night Sophia disappeared…”
His voice lowered.
“…your name appeared in the investigation.”
Silence.
Dead silence.
Zara's blood ran cold.
“My name?”
“Yes.”
She stepped back.
“What are you talking about?”
“I don't know yet.”
His eyes locked onto hers.
“That's why I need the truth.”
Her pulse hammered.
“What

Chapter 16: Blood Trail
The guard hesitated.
Then—
“We found blood.”
The room froze.
Zara’s stomach dropped.
“Whose blood?” she whispered.
But nobody answered immediately.
Because deep down—
They were all thinking the same thing.
Daniel hadn’t come alone.
And tonight—
Was never supposed to end peacefully.
Adrian turned sharply toward the guard.
“Take me there.”
“Sir—”
“Now.”
His voice left no room for argument.
The guard nodded immediately.
Zara stepped forward.
“I’m coming too.”
“No.”
She stared at him.
“You don’t get to tell me no.”
His eyes locked onto hers.
“This is dangerous.”
“Someone brought a gun into your house,” she snapped.
“I think we passed dangerous already.”
For a second—
Silence.
Heavy.
Then Adrian exhaled slowly.
“Stay beside me.”
Not permission.
An order.
But she took it anyway.
The group moved quickly through the dim emergency lighting.
Long hallways.
Shadows.
Broken silence.
The mansion suddenly felt unfamiliar.
Like something alive was hiding inside it.
They reached the west hallway.
Glass covered the floor.
One shattered window.
Cold night air rushing inside.
And there—
Across the marble—
A thin trail of blood.
Zara’s heartbeat stumbled.
“Oh God…”
A guard crouched beside it.
“Fresh.”
Adrian’s expression became unreadable.
“Inside blood or outside?”
“Both.”
The answer chilled the room.
Which meant—
Someone entered.
And someone left.
Zara looked toward the darkness beyond the broken window.
The forest behind the estate looked endless.
Silent.
Watching.
Then—
A phone vibrated.
Everyone froze.
The sound was coming from the floor.
Near the blood.
One of the guards carefully picked it up.
Cracked screen.
Unknown device.
Adrian held out his hand.
The guard gave it to him.
The screen lit up automatically.
One new message.
No name.
No number.
Just words.
“You should have told her the truth.”
Zara’s breath disappeared.
Slowly—
Very slowly—
She turned toward Adrian.
The blood.
Daniel’s warning.
The message.

Chapter 15: The Truth in the Dark
Daniel noticed.
And hated it.
“You don’t even know who he is,” Daniel said to her.
Adrian’s eyes darkened slightly.
Interesting.
Zara noticed that.
“What does that mean?” she asked slowly.
Daniel smiled.
But there was nothing nice about it.
“You really think meeting him tonight was an accident?”
Silence.
Her pulse spiked.
Daniel looked directly at Adrian.
“Tell her the truth.”
The air changed instantly.
And for the first time—
Zara saw something unexpected in Adrian’s expression.
Tension.
Real tension.
“What truth?” she whispered.
But nobody answered immediately.
Because suddenly—
The mansion lights went out.
Complete darkness.
And somewhere inside the house—
A gunshot echoed.
Zara screamed softly.
The sound of running footsteps exploded around them.
Guards shouting.
Furniture crashing.
Someone yelled:
“Protect Mr. Cole!”
Adrian moved instantly.
One arm wrapped around Zara.
Pulling her against him.
“Stay down,” he ordered.
Her heart slammed wildly against her chest.
“What’s happening?!”
No answer.
Only chaos.
Then—
Emergency backup lights flickered on.
Dim red lighting flooded the mansion.
Dangerous.
Unstable.
Daniel was gone.
Zara’s breath caught.
“He disappeared…”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
“Of course he did.”
Another guard rushed toward them.
“Sir—the west hallway window was shattered.”
Adrian’s expression turned deadly.
“Shooter?”
“We’re checking now.”
Zara’s hands trembled slightly.
This was real.
Someone had fired a gun inside the mansion.
And somehow—
That truth terrified her less than Daniel’s words.
Tell her the truth.
Her eyes slowly lifted to Adrian.
“What was he talking about?”
Silence.
Adrian looked away briefly.
Rare.
Very rare.
“Adrian.”
His eyes met hers again.
And for the first time since she met him—
He looked conflicted.
Before he could speak—
One of the guards touched his earpiece suddenly.
His expression changed instantly.
“Sir…”
Adrian turned sharply.
“What?”

Chapter 14: Mine
Her hand moved automatically to the diamond bracelet Daniel gave her earlier that week.
Fear crept into her chest.
Slow.
Cold.
“No…”
Daniel stepped forward quickly.
“It was for safety!”
Adrian’s voice cut through sharply.
“You tracked her without consent.”
Silence.
Heavy.
Zara slowly removed the bracelet.
Her fingers shaking.
Daniel’s face hardened instantly.
“Zara.”
But this time—
She stepped back.
Away from him.
And toward Adrian.
Daniel saw it.
And something dangerous entered his eyes.
“You’re making a mistake,” he said quietly.
Adrian didn’t blink.
“No,” he replied.
“You already made yours.”
Then—
In front of everyone—
Adrian reached for Zara’s hand.
And said the words that shocked the entire room.
“She’s marrying me tonight.”
The lobby went silent.
Even the guards looked stunned.
Daniel stared at Adrian like he had lost his mind.
“You can’t be serious.”
Adrian’s grip on Zara’s hand tightened slightly.
“I never joke about what belongs to me.”
Zara’s heart skipped.
Belongs?
The word hit strangely.
Dangerously.
Daniel laughed once.
Cold.
Mocking.
“You think this is protection?” he asked.
“No,” Adrian replied calmly.
“This is a warning.”
The tension in the room became unbearable.
Daniel’s eyes moved to Zara again.
“Is this what you want?”
The question landed heavily.
Because she didn’t know.
Not fully.
Not yet.
But one thing was clear—
She no longer trusted the man standing in front of her.
Daniel saw the hesitation in her eyes.
And it changed him instantly.
The mask slipped.
“You’re choosing him over me?” he asked quietly.
Zara swallowed hard.
“You lied to me.”
His jaw tightened.
“I was trying to protect us.”
“No,” Adrian cut in coldly.
“You were trying to control her.”
Daniel snapped.
“Stay out of this!”
The shout echoed across the mansion.
Guards moved immediately.
Tension exploded.
But Adrian didn’t even flinch.
Instead—
He stepped slightly in front of Zara again.
Protective.
Calm.
Dangerous.

Chapter 13: Face to Face
For the first time—
Adrian hesitated.
Just slightly.
Then—
“Because this started with you.”
Confusion hit instantly.
“What does that mean?”
But before he could answer—
Another voice echoed from downstairs.
Sharp.
Angry.
Male.
“I know she’s here!”
Daniel.
Zara’s blood ran cold.
And Adrian’s expression became deadly.
Without another word—
Adrian turned and walked toward the stairs.
Fast.
Controlled.
Dangerous.
Zara followed before she could stop herself.
“Adrian—”
“Stay upstairs.”
“I’m not hiding!”
His eyes flashed toward her.
“This isn’t a request.”
That only made her more stubborn.
By the time they reached the lower floor—
Voices were already clashing.
Guards blocking the entrance.
Daniel standing in the middle of the mansion lobby.
Furious.
Tie loose.
Eyes wild.
And the moment he saw Zara—
Everything changed.
“Zara.”
Her stomach twisted.
He stepped toward her instantly.
“You need to come with me.”
Adrian moved in front of her immediately.
Blocking him completely.
“No.”
Daniel’s jaw tightened.
“This has nothing to do with you.”
Adrian’s voice turned ice-cold.
“She’s in my house.”
“And she was my fiancée first!”
The air became deadly quiet.
Zara’s heart pounded hard.
Daniel looked at her again.
Softening instantly.
Like flipping a switch.
“Baby, listen to me,” he said.
“I was worried sick.”
Adrian gave a low, humorless laugh.
“Interesting.”
Daniel ignored him.
“Whatever he told you is a lie.”
Zara stared at him carefully.
Really stared.
And suddenly—
She noticed it.
The anger behind his smile.
The pressure behind his voice.
The control.
“How did you find me?” she asked quietly.
Daniel paused.
Just for a second.
Then—
“I used my resources.”
Adrian’s eyes darkened slightly.
“A tracker,” he said calmly.
Zara frowned.
“What?”
Daniel’s expression shifted instantly.
“Don’t start.”
Adrian turned slightly toward her.
“The bracelet.”

Chapter 12: Tonight
Adrian’s eyes turned cold.
Very cold.
Zara swallowed hard.
“That sounded like a threat.”
“It was,” Adrian replied.
Her chest tightened.
“What do we do now?”
Adrian looked at the television once more.
Then back at her.
And his next words changed everything.
“We get married tonight.”
Silence.
Complete silence.
Zara stared at him like she stopped breathing.
“Tonight?” she repeated.
“Yes.”
“That’s insane.”
“It’s necessary.”
Her frustration exploded instantly.
“You keep saying things like they’re facts!”
“Because they are.”
“No—they’re your decisions!”
His gaze stayed calm.
Controlled.
Dangerously calm.
“And right now,” he said quietly,
“my decisions are keeping you alive.”
That shut her up for exactly two seconds.
“I am not marrying a stranger!”
“You already ran from one man tonight,” Adrian replied.
His eyes darkened slightly.
“Would you rather go back to him?”
The question hit hard.
Too hard.
Because for the first time—
She wasn’t sure what Daniel was capable of anymore.
Her silence answered him.
Adrian stepped closer slowly.
“Listen carefully, Zara.”
His voice lowered.
“The moment this story became public…”
A pause.
“…you stopped being safe.”
Her chest tightened.
“And marriage fixes that?”
“It changes the rules.”
She looked away.
Thinking.
Panicking.
Feeling trapped.
Again.
But this trap felt different.
Daniel’s world had felt fake.
Controlling.
Smiling on the outside.
Danger underneath.
Adrian’s world?
At least the danger was honest.
That thought scared her most.
A soft knock interrupted them.
One of the female staff entered carefully.
“Sir,” she said respectfully.
“The legal team has arrived.”
Zara’s heart nearly stopped.
Legal team?
He was serious.
Completely serious.
Adrian nodded once.
“Prepare everything.”
“Yes, sir.”
The woman left.
Zara looked at him slowly.
“You already planned this.”
“No,” he replied.
“I prepared for the possibility.”
Her stomach flipped.
“Why me?”

Chapter 11: Exposed
“There she is!”
Zara froze.
Because now—
The whole world knew where she was.
Camera flashes exploded outside the mansion.
Reporters shouted over each other.
“Miss Zara!”
“Are you engaged to Adrian Cole?”
“Did you leave your fiancé for him?”
Her breathing became uneven.
“This is bad,” she whispered.
Adrian’s face remained unreadable.
“No,” he said calmly.
“This is expected.”
She turned toward him in disbelief.
“Expected?!”
“You disappeared publicly,” he replied.
“And then entered my car.”
A pause.
“The media was always going to connect the story.”
Zara felt panic rising again.
Her phone buzzed nonstop now.
Calls.
Messages.
Notifications.
Her entire world exploding online.
One headline appeared across the television screen:
“Runaway Bride Found at Billionaire’s Mansion.”
Her stomach twisted.
“Oh my God…”
Another headline followed immediately:
“Wedding Scandal Turns Into Billionaire Romance?”
“No,” Zara whispered.
“This isn’t happening.”
But it was.
And outside—
The crowd kept growing.
Adrian looked toward the guards.
“Clear the front entrance.”
“Yes, sir.”
Then he turned back to Zara.
“You need to stay calm.”
She stared at him.
“How exactly am I supposed to do that?”
For a second—
Something almost amused flickered in his eyes.
Then it disappeared.
“You adapt quickly under pressure,” he said.
“That’s not a compliment right now.”
“No,” he agreed calmly.
“It’s survival.”
Before she could answer—
The television volume suddenly increased.
Breaking news.
Live footage.
A reporter stood outside Daniel’s family estate.
Then—
Daniel appeared on screen.
Zara’s breath caught instantly.
He looked furious.
Destroyed.
Obsessed.
“I just want Zara to come home safely,” he said into the microphones.
A lie wrapped perfectly for the cameras.
But then—
His expression darkened slightly.
“And whoever is hiding her…”
His voice sharpened.
“…should understand there will be consequences.”
The air in the room changed immediately.
