A sporting event goes beyond just playing. Spectating plays an equally important role not only for the event organisers but also for the athletes, the current and potential sponsors and for the sports in general.
The more people you have at your games, the more motivated the players are to performs at their peak, the more people talk about the games hence raising the profile of the sports, the more sponsors will want to associate with the sports.
The NCC Tennis League is a fantastic idea with tennis action every weekend throughout the last quarter of the year. Matches have been played in Abuja, Lagos and Onitsha in the 2016 Edition and more matches will played in Ilorin, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Asaba.
However, the attendance at these games have not been so impressive.
Also considering that these matches are played on weekends, one would expect a higher turnout than witnessed.
Tennis development in Nigeria is a collective effort. It has started with organising tennis events and should be complemented by getting sports fans to the event.
The NCC Tennis League continued this weekend with the Hope-Civil Defense and Goshen-Leadway Series in Asaba and Ilorin respectively.
