Schoolgirl's Reluctant Journey from Dreams of Law to Unwanted Marriage

Amelia, a bright and determined schoolgirl with aspirations of becoming a lawyer, was on the brink of achieving her dreams. However, fate had other plans in store for her.

Growing up in a traditional community, Amelia had faced numerous challenges to follow her passion for law. Despite the obstacles, she managed to score top grades and secure a scholarship at the prestigious Ivy Law Academy. Her dedication and hard work were finally paying off, or so she thought.

One fateful evening, Amelia's parents called her into the living room, their grim expressions betraying a solemn secret. With despair in their eyes, they informed her of an arranged marriage proposal, a custom rooted deep in their culture. Shocked and heartbroken, Amelia's dreams were shattered, replaced by an unwelcome future as a young bride.

The next few weeks were filled with tumultuous emotions as Amelia grappled with the conflicting desires of loyalty and personal fulfillment. Every day, as she attended classes at Ivy Law Academy, she yearned for freedom and the pursuit of justice. The thought of sacrificing her dreams for the sake of tradition weighed heavily on her heart.

Amidst the chaos, Amelia discovered a hidden ally in her grandmother, a resilient woman who had faced similar battles of her own. Drawing strength from her grandmother's stories, Amelia resolved to challenge the oppressive norms of her society.

With newfound determination, Amelia mustered the courage to confront her parents, pleading for their understanding and support. Torn between love for their daughter and the weight of tradition, her parents hesitated, unsure of the right path to take.

Finally, after much deliberation and soul-searching, Amelia's parents decided to stand by her side, proud of their daughter's aspirations and unwilling to see her dreams compromised.

And so, Amelia embarked on her journey to become a lawyer, not just for herself but also to inspire change within her community. With her family's support and her unwavering resolve, Amelia would rise above the stifling limitations enforced upon her.

The story looks real right? Ooh no, it is fictional.

A Teen Scholar's Long Journey

In the bustling city of Lagos, Aisha, driven by her parents' fervor for education, embarked on a remarkable journey from secondary school to university. With limited resources, she chose to become a street vendor, selling goods to fund her studies.

From colorful scarves to hand crafted trinkets, Aisha tirelessly hawked her way through crowded markets, embracing the challenges with unwavering determination.

Her parents, unable to afford her education, instilled in her the belief that knowledge was the key to a brighter future. Undeterred by societal expectations, Aisha defied odds, balancing academics and street vending.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, she could be found poring over textbooks by the dim light of a kerosene lamp.

Aisha's tenacity caught the eye of a compassionate teacher, who, moved by her resilience, connected her with a scholarship program. The scholarship not only eased her financial burden but also fueled her aspirations.

Aisha's journey, marked by grit and perseverance, unfolded into a testament of triumph over adversity—a tale of a young woman who turned the challenges of the streets into stepping stones toward academic excellence.

Note: The piece is work of fiction. 😆 😂

How My Journalism Dreams Were Shattered By My Politician Father

Asmau always dreamed of becoming a renowned journalist, but fate had something else planned for her. Her father, a prominent politician, despised the journalism profession. He carried a deep hatred, born out of a past incident that forever scarred his perception.

Years ago, as he campaigned for Senator, he fell victim to a malicious journalist's attempts at blackmail. The journalist threatened to expose his political scandals, perpetuating lies that could ruin his career and family. The incident left an indelible mark on his soul, turning his heart against the very profession that had betrayed him.

Asmau, now a young woman with fiery determination, tried to reason with her father. She pleaded, explaining how her passion for journalism could bring genuine change and shed light on important issues. But her pleas fell on deaf ears as her father's resentment consumed him. He forbade her from pursuing her dreams, citing his painful past as reason enough.

Heartbroken, Asmau reluctantly set her dreams aside. Instead, she opted for a more conventional career that her father approved of, stifling her true potential.

The story of Asmau serves as a cautionary tale. It highlights how deeply personal experiences can mold our perceptions, warping our understanding of entire professions. Fiction allows us a glimpse into an alternative reality, where the limits of our imagination are tested. While Asmau's story may be fictional, it reminds us to challenge our biases and judge each person or occupation on their own merits.

Note: The story above is a work of fiction.

GAS HIKE: Students in Lapai alleged vendor of pumping air, groan over gas price

By Dinah Kolo

The students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, University, Lapai, IBBUL, have registred their displeasure alleged pumping air into gas cylinder and increase of gas price among sellers.

This reporter gathered that students accused gas re-fillers of pumping air in gas cylinder instead of gas.

A 300 level student of Geography department identified as Hycent said gas of 1kg doesnt take up to a week, lamenting that the worst is those re-filling station which hardly last for four to five days.

According to Nathaniel, a 300 level student of Geography said " Even without cooking beans with it, it doesn't take time to finish.

Contrary to other students claim, Gloria intruded counter Nathaniel's claim saying , filling station too also last before it exhaust.

A student who pleaded anonymity said the use of electrical stoves and plate is better. What we faced in Lapai with AEDC had made it impossible, faulting shortage of power supply. We are left with no choice than to re-fill the gas cylinder despite increase.

Isah, a 200 level student of political science department said that the re-filling at petroleum station is better as it is set automatically.

"It is usually filled well qunlike those outside vendors that put the cylinders on the scale, adding that it is more.

"When they try to remove the pump, they let the gas wasted instead to put more on our cylinder, he said.

Also, another student of Biological Science department, Ahmed said that of the station is better as the station sells at rate of Seven hundred naira.

According to him,"those selling apart from petroleum station sells at the rate of Seven hundred and fifty naira, adding that the stations own is much better.

"Mine (has) last comparing to other students that complains bitterly, said Ahmed.

Speaking with the gas re-filler at Simarite petroleum station, said the price and rate is automatically set, saying that there is no chance air will be filled in place of gas.
