NIGER STATE: WHEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE DISAPPEAR
Imagine going to bed knowing your family is safe, only to wake up and hear that hundreds of people in your community have been taken.
That is the reality being reported in parts of Niger State.
During Friday prayers, gunmen reportedly attacked communities in Borgu Local Government Area, killing some residents and abducting a large number of people.
Residents have put the number of abducted people at around 600. However, that figure has not been independently verified, and reports from different sources have varied.
What we do know is that the incident has triggered a major government response.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the military, police, DSS and other security agencies to work together to rescue the victims and track down those responsible.
But beyond the numbers, there is a bigger concern.
How does a community recover when hundreds of people can simply disappear?
For families, it isn't just a headline.
It is a missing father.
A missing mother.
A missing child.
A community waiting and hoping for someone to come home.
And that is why the situation in Niger State deserves more than a few hours of attention online.
The question now is simple:
Can Nigeria's security agencies find the victims and bring them home?
