2027: Wike Restricts Abuja Event Venues to INEC-Recognized Political Parties
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed owners of hotels, event centres, and similar facilities across Abuja to deny access to political party factions that are not officially recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The directive, issued through the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), aims to ensure compliance with electoral regulations and maintain order in political activities within the nation's capital.
The FCTA warned that any hotel or event centre found hosting unrecognized political factions could face severe sanctions, including the revocation of its title documents and other administrative penalties.
According to the administration, only political parties and factions duly acknowledged by INEC will be permitted to use public and private venues for political gatherings, meetings, and related activities in Abuja.
The move comes amid growing political realignments and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
