KOGI UNITED FC PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO HON. BASHIRU GEGU AHEAD OF NLO MATCHDAY 5
Players and officials of Kogi United Football Club, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner of Solid Minerals, Hon. Abubakar Bashiru Gegu, in Gegu Beki on Saturday while en route to Abuja for their Matchday 5 fixture in the ongoing Nationwide League One, NLO.
The team, led by Team Leader Mr. Itodo Michael Olachene, travelled in the newly unveiled 32-seater coaster bus donated by His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, to the state female team, Confluence Queens FC. The visit was in recognition of Hon. Gegu’s reputation as a grassroots politician who spends weekends with his people.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Olachene conveyed the team’s appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the donation of the bus, noting that it has significantly improved mobility and comfort for state-owned teams. He added that Kogi United’s use of the bus for the Abuja trip demonstrates that the Governor’s gesture benefits all teams under the state.
While expressing gratitude, Mr. Olachene further appealed to the Governor, through Hon. Gegu, to consider providing Kogi United FC with its own dedicated bus to ease logistics and enhance preparations.
Responding, Hon. Abubakar Bashiru Gegu thanked the team for the visit and acknowledged the unifying power of football. He emphasized the need for government and stakeholders to support sporting talents at all levels.
Hon. Gegu assured the delegation that he would speak with the Governor to facilitate the provision of a bus and other necessary support for Kogi United FC to boost the team’s morale.
He charged the players to continue making the state proud and wished them success in their upcoming fixtures.
In his usual philanthropic gesture, Hon. Gegu donated ₦1,000,000 to the team to support feeding and logistics for the Abuja trip.
