PAAU HOSTS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE FOR STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT ON CAMPUS SECURITY
On Thursday, July 31, 2025, the Management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, warmly received the Commissioner of Police, Danta Wale Miller, Psc, during a high-level stakeholder engagement held at the University’s Senate Chambers.
In his welcome address, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. J. J. Orugun described the Commissioner as “a good and godly man”, highlighting the synergy between the research expertise of the University and the investigative acumen of the police. He commended the Commissioner’s leadership and gave special recognition to the Area Commander and the DPO, referring to SP Yahaya as “a seasoned law officer and the face of the Nigerian Police.”
Prof. Orogun praised the Commissioner’s team, calling them “the right men for the right job at the right time in Anyigba,” and emphasized the University’s remarkable growth and stability. He noted that PAAU currently has 52 accredited Departments, 8 Faculties, a student population of approximately 27,000, and recently recorded the successful resource verification of 13 new courses, including the approval of the MBBS (Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery) program.
Reflecting on campus security, Prof. Orogun stated that prior to 2020, the University faced disturbing security challenges. However, with the emergence of Prof. Marietu Tenuche as Vice Chancellor in 2020, the security architecture was restructured, drastically reducing incidents on campus. He credited this transformation to the Vice-Chancellor’s decisive actions, the grace of God, and the collaborative efforts of the police and other security agencies in Anyigba.
He emphasized that security and stakeholder welfare are key pillars of the current administration. Prof. Tenuche’s absence at the event, he noted, was due to her commitment to overseeing the reclinical training program for nursing students in Lokoja. Prof. Orogun expressed hopes for a more secure environment, especially in curbing student involvement in cybercrime and social vices, and emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration with law enforcement. He concluded by commending the professionalism and high-quality representation of the Commissioner’s team, which he described as “worthy of emulation.”
In his response, Commissioner Danta Wale Miller, Psc, stated that the purpose of his visit was to hold a stakeholder meeting with key members of the University and the wider Anyigba community. He appreciated the warm reception and hospitality extended by The University Management and emphasized the importance of engaging with stakeholders to identify security gaps within the community.
He explained that the stakeholder engagement continued later in the day at the Area Commander’s office, where he met with traditional rulers, road transport workers, tribal community leaders, and others to gain insight into their security concerns and develop effective solutions.
The Commissioner commended the University for the positive reports he had received from the Area Commander and DPO. He assured the University that any officer found wanting in character or conduct would be appropriately dealt with and encouraged continued synergy between the police and the university to sustain peace and order on campus.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, was ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Johnson Juwon Orogun, who led other principal officers of the University in hosting the Commissioner and his delegation. In attendance were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Egwemi Oja Paul; University Registrar, Barr. Yahaya Segun Alilu; Bursar, Dr. Aminat Anuhi; and other members of the University Management team.
Also present were top police officials from the Anyigba area, including the Area Commander, Mohammed M. Ghallali, Psc, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Anyigba, SP Cletus Esinolu, and other accompanying officers from various units.
