A Shepherd of the Celestial Church of Christ, Iri Orun Parish, Bidemi Odukoya, has allegedly killed his wife during a midnight domestic dispute in Akiode Ibogun, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident, which occurred around 2am on Monday, August 31, reportedly stemmed from allegations of infidelity by both parties, plunging the Ogooluwa community into mourning.

Residents said Odukoya used a machete and a wooden stool to attack his wife, leading to her death.

After his wife’s death, the cleric also took his own life hours later.

The couple’s 14-year-old son, Daniel, reportedly raised the alarm, waking neighbours.

A neighbour, Mrs Oluwatoyin Oseni, said, “We met Mummy Daniel’s lifeless body on the floor, covered in blood. Daddy Daniel was holding a cutlass and told us he was as good as gone.”

After the attack, Odukoya reportedly fled the community. Around 7am, he was said to have jumped in front of a moving truck at Coker junction along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and died instantly.

The two were buried side by side behind their home on Monday evening.

The Baale of Akiode Ibogun, Chief Taiwo Akiode, described the incident as “the first of its kind” in the community.

“These are people we know as jovial and respectful. Nobody saw this coming,” he said.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident.

Its spokesperson, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, said the case file has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The couple is survived by three boys.

BOKO HARAM–ISWAP FIGHTERS CLASH, ATTACK APC GUBER CANDIDATE’S CONVOY

By Felicia - Shortnsharp News

Fresh violence has erupted in Borno State as rival factions of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) engaged in deadly clashes in the Sambisa Forest, while terrorists also attacked the convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mustapha Gubio.

Security sources said at least 23 terrorists were killed in renewed fighting between the two factions around the Chingolo axis of Bama Local Government Area.

According to the sources, Boko Haram fighters attacked ISWAP members who were advancing into the area, triggering prolonged exchanges of gunfire as both groups battled for control of strategic positions.

Videos obtained by security analyst Zagazola Makama showed fighters engaging in intense gun battles as the rival groups sought to consolidate their positions and prevent further expansion by the opposing faction.

Intelligence reports indicated that more than 23 terrorists had been killed on both sides since the clashes began two days ago, although the exact casualty figure could not be independently verified.

The latest confrontation highlights the longstanding rivalry between Boko Haram and ISWAP over territory, access routes, resources and control of fighters in the Sambisa Forest and surrounding communities.

The infighting is believed to have disrupted the activities of both groups in an area that has remained a major stronghold of insurgents in the North-East.

Meanwhile, the Borno State Police Command confirmed that Boko Haram terrorists ambushed the convoy of Gubio on Thursday.

The attack occurred around Kareto community at about 2:30 p.m. along the Gubio-Kareto-Damasak highway, while the convoy was returning to Maiduguri from Damasak following a thank-you visit to APC supporters.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, said the attack was repelled by a combined team of security personnel comprising the Police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilantes.

Daso said the terrorists planted Improvised Explosive Devices and fired several Rocket-Propelled Grenades at the convoy.

“The terrorists laid ambush with planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and fired several Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), but they were repelled with no casualties recorded among security forces or civilians,” he said.

However, security sources disclosed that a police armoured vehicle attached to the convoy was damaged during the encounter.

The military is continuing surveillance and counter-terrorism operations across the North-East, with a focus on terrorist concentrations, logistics networks and hideouts.

Security authorities have also urged residents of communities around Sambisa Forest and northern Borno to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.

PRESIDENT RUTO ORDERS MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION OUT OF KENYA

Kenya’s President William Ruto has ordered Tata Chemicals to leave the country, accusing the Indian company of failing to create sufficient economic impact from its soda ash operations in Kajiado county.

Tata Chemicals produces soda ash from Lake Magadi, a key mineral used in the manufacture of glass, soaps and detergents.

Government data showed that Kenya exported 254,779 tonnes of soda ash valued at 56.9 million dollars in the year to July 2025.

Addressing a public rally, Ruto directed the company to “pack and leave” to pave the way for a new investor.

Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited has operated in Kenya since 2005, but its activities were suspended by the Ministry of Mining in July pending a “compliance review.”

Ruto argued that the resources from Lake Magadi should generate greater economic benefits for the local community and the wider Kenyan economy.

“They have not built anything in Kajiado,” the President stated, referring to the county where Lake Magadi is located.

He also criticised the company for what he described as inadequate investment and employment opportunities in the area.

“They have not built any factory or employed people,” Ruto stressed.

The Kenyan leader accused the company of exporting the country’s mineral resources without creating plans to attract a replacement investor.

“They have been taking our resources and shipping them to India.

“We will bring a new company and the condition set is they must build a glass factory here,” he maintained.

The proposed departure could result in job losses and reduced government revenue from the soda ash sector.

However, Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited disputed any suggestion of non-compliance, informing the National Stock Exchange of India on Friday that it was “fully compliant” with Kenyan requirements.

The company said it was awaiting further communication from the Kenyan government regarding the review of its operations.
