On Friday, 15 May 2026, armed men attacked schools in Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. During the incident, students, teachers, and school staff were abducted, while the principal of one of the affected schools, Mrs Rachael Alamu, was also taken. Reports confirm that about 39 students, along with some teachers and the principal, were kidnapped during the attack.
A viral video later circulated on social media showing abducted victims speaking from captivity. In the video, the principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu, emotionally confirmed that they were attacked around 9:30 a.m. on the day of the incident and that both staff and students were taken. She appealed to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, religious bodies, and the public to intervene urgently and secure their release.
In the same video, another abducted victim, a woman identified as Temitope, who was seen carrying a baby, also called for help. She stated that both teachers and children were in captivity and urged authorities and the public to intervene so that the victims would be released safely. She also described the children as being in distress, saying they were crying while being held.
Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted during the attack was later killed by the kidnapers while in captivity. A disturbing video allegedly released by the abductors on Sunday, 17 May 2026, showed the teacher being beheaded.
As of the latest available information, the attack has left the community in fear and mourning, with continued calls for the safe rescue of the abducted students and staff.
