PHOTOS: President Tinubu Spotted Walking To Office From His Residence
The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu walks from his residence to his office and eats only once a day, while dismissing allegations that the president and other public officials maintain lavish lifestyles amid economic hardship.
Adedeji made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme. Responding to questions about the cost of governance, the president’s movements, and reported use of luxury vehicles in his convoy, the NRS boss argued that Tinubu leads a modest routine.
“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy. Before he became president, what is he riding?” Adedeji said.
He further stated: “How much is an Escalade that the president of Nigeria cannot afford? Please don’t embarrass this country. What is living large? In the last months, he has not even left the shores of this country, trekking and working. If you go there now, you will see him review one document or the other. So what is living large? The president eats once in a day. How many parties have you seen him at in the last three years? Tell me where you have seen him, whether on holiday or anywhere?”
Adedeji’s comments came against the backdrop of public debate over government spending and the lifestyles of political leaders, as many Nigerians grapple with rising living costs and economic pressures. He maintained that Tinubu has not travelled outside the country in the past three months and is focused on work.
The remarks have drawn mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the claims and others criticising the defence of the administration’s cost of governance.
Zacch Adedeji, also referred to in some reports as Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, heads the Nigeria Revenue Service, the agency formerly known as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
