‘ Youth Must Be Part Of Decision Making, They’re Leaders Of Today’ - Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo, former president, has called for the inclusion of young people in governance and leadership at all levels.

Speaking on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, during the grand reunion and maiden lecture series of the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), United Kingdom Alumni Association, Nigerian chapter, Obasanjo said the youth must be part of decision-making today, not just seen as leaders of tomorrow.

The former president said elders and leaders across society owe the younger generation a duty to provide truthful, transparent, and selfless leadership that secures the future rather than depleting it.

Delivering a lecture titled “The Challenges of Youth in a Fractured World”, Obasanjo, represented by Samuel Daramola, deputy director of the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute, reflected on how today’s generation of youth are growing up in a far more uncertain and unstable world than those before them.

Forget 2027 Campaign In Kogi, You Have No Opposition Here - Yahaya Bello Tells Tinubu

Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi, says President Bola Tinubu does not need to campaign for the 2027 elections in the state.
Speaking on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kogi, Bello said the party has no opposition in the north-central state.

Bello described Kogi as a stronghold of the ruling party, adding that the president enjoys overwhelming support among the people.

“Your excellency, Mr president, you don’t even need to come to Kogi state to campaign in 2027. Don’t do any wahala [trouble] that you want to come to Kogi state to campaign for a second term. There is no opposition in Kogi state,” Bello said.

“Those who are making noise somewhere have not seen the lion. Congratulations Mr president. Every great nation must have a leader that everybody can gravitate towards.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, you are that leader that all of us shall gravitate towards even after your second term in office.”

Court Stops Sowore, Others From Holding Protest In Abuja

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an interim injunction restraining activist Omoyele Sowore, the Take It Back Movement, the RevolutionNow group, and others from organising or participating in the planned October 20 protest demanding the release of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The order, issued by Justice M.G. Umar, followed an ex parte application filed by the Federal Government through the Nigeria Police Force, which argued that the planned demonstration could threaten public peace and national security within the Federal Capital Territory. The court specifically barred the respondents from staging or promoting any protest around the A*o Rock Villa, National Assembly, and Unity Fountain in Abuja.

Sowore, however, alleged that the order was granted “in chambers” after the same request had earlier been declined in open court. “After initially rejecting the motion to stop our protest in open court, the judge reportedly granted it in chambers,” he wrote on his social media page, calling the move an attempt to silence dissent.

The protest, scheduled for Monday, October 20, had gained traction online and received endorsement from several political figures, including a former Vice President and a former Senate President. Organisers had vowed to march to the Presidential Villa to demand Kanu’s release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Kanu, who has been detained since June 2021 on charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony, has continued to attract widespread calls for release amid a lengthy legal battle.

Meanwhile, the United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a security alert to its citizens ahead of the planned demonstration, warning of potential v+olence and traffic disruptions in the Central Business District, Eagle Square, and surrounding areas. The embassy advised its nationals to avoid protest zones, limit movement, and maintain a low profile throughout Monday.

PROTEST: Ohaneze Ndigbo Questions The Unsolicited Love Of Atiku-Sowore Towards Igbo Cause, Distances Self From Protest

Apex lgbo Socio-cultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has disassociated itself, South-East governors, Ministers from the region from the October 20th 2025, planned nationwide protest for the unconditional release of Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in conjunction with the Southeast Governors and Igbo Ministers, said it has a grave sense of responsibility and a profound commitment to the well-being of the zone and the stability of the country.

The Igbo group condemned the planned Sowore-Atiku-orchestrated protests, focused on the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the factional Deputy-President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Chief Chinyereze, National Thompson Ohia, National Spokesperson and made available to journalists.

Ohanaeze said, ”We view this purported demonstration with extreme suspicion and firmly believe it to be a thinly veiled attempt at fomenting unrest, destabilizing the government of President Bola Tinubu, and exploiting the legitimate concerns of Ndigbo for nefarious political ends.

”Our considered assessment, informed by credible intelligence and meticulous analysis, reveals that this proposed action is nothing more than a cynical ploy designed to instigate a repeat of the EndSARS riots, ultimately aimed at undermining the current administration.”

The sudden and unsolicited display of “uneasy affection for Igbo causes by individuals previously indifferent or even hostile to our community raises significant red flags. We, the Igbo people, are too astute and discerning to be ensnared by the Atiku-Sowore b***y trap.
