WHY HIGH CHIEF FRANCIS ALOCHU IKPOBU IS GRADING ROADS IN OJU LGA

Some major township roads in Oju Local Government Area are currently receiving attention through the efforts of Chief Francis Alochu Ikpobu the Odochu of Amono and Ognomgbom of Igede nation.

These roads includes Ogbodo Obebe-Obachita Ipinu, Ehurukpe-Apwima, Ogengeng-Adagede, Ekpengbe-Ikachi, and Umoda-Oju roads. Others are Chairman's Quarters-Adirahu Ny'Igede's Palace and Ekpengbe-Ichakobe roads.

According to sources close to Chief Francis Alochu Ikpobu, the reason for the grading of the roads is to make life better for the people who use the road daily. He further emphasized that Chief Alochu was tourced by the deplorable state of road in and around Oju local government area and vowed to fix them before the raining season sets in.

The state of these roads were a thing of concern for the users and everyone within the town as they are mostly use daily by the people. A drive around town is a hell of a thing because of the nature of the road.

SDP is Open to Welcoming New Members, Say the Leaders

The Forum of State Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reiterated its commitment to welcoming new members, including prominent politicians from across the country, while maintaining the party’s democratic structure and core principles.

In its inaugural meeting held on Thursday in Abuja, the Forum passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the SDP, which includes the national chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and the national secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye.

A total of 25 state chairmen who attended the meeting expressed their support for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and commended its efforts in repositioning the party.

Reading a communiqué at a press conference after the meeting, the Chairman of the Forum, Honourable Femi Olaniyi, emphasized that while the SDP is open to new members, their admission and registration must be conducted through the party’s internal structures led by the state chairmen.

He said, “We warmly welcome the influx of new members to our party, including prominent politicians from across the country. However, new members must be admitted and registered through the appropriate party structures. They cannot register themselves as members independently.”

Hon Idoko Itodo Urges Muslims Uma to Keep up the Spirit of Love and Sacrifice

Hon Idoko Itodo has admonished Muslims faithfuls to continue to abide by the spirit of love, unity and sacrifice even after the Ramadan and Eid el-Fitr celebration.

In a Sallah Message which he personally signed and sent to The NewsImpact, Hon Idoko who is the Chairman of Social Democratic Party SDP in Benue State, reminded Muslims faithfuls of the month long devotion exemplifies in fastings culminating in Eid ei-Fitr celebration. 'Fasting is a period of discipline and sacrifice ", he said.

Hon idoko urged Muslims to use the period to pray for the Benue State Governor and his government to succeed, saying it is the duty of Muslims to pray for their leaders. 'We should use this period to pray for the governor and government of Benue State so that God will give His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia the grace, strength and wisdom to confront the numerous security challenges confronting the State", he said.

According to him, God would through their prayers grant the people of Benue State peace, progress, development and harmony they need to take Benue State to another level. He reminded them that Benue State is everyone's home and the people need peace to develop it.

The Rising Fortunes of SDP in Benue State.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is positively in the news in Benue State. It is therefore correct to say that the Party's fortune is on the rise in the State following the kind of interest the people have shown on the membership of the party over the last few months.

But the question on the lips of many people in the State currently is that is SDP strong enough to step in and solve the many problems bedeviling the State? The answer depends on how events unfold in the near future. The truth is that SDP is working and gathering members with active interest.

Let me say clearly that this rising fortune is not without the very fine, soul-searching work done by the able Party Chairman, Hon Itodo Idoko over the last few months. Therefore, credit must go to the workaholics chairman of the Party who has brought leadership to bear and has transformed the Party from obscurity to a major force.

Since the coming onboard of Hon Itodo Idoko as SDP Chairman in Benue State, the Party has not remained the same, the fortune of the party has continued to rise. First, Hon Itodo ensured that party members across the State were brought together to brainstorm on the way forward for the party. This happened immediately after the general election and that gathering has a far reaching effect till date.

Today, Hon Itodo has not left anyone in doubt of his ability to change things. He has transformed SDP into a highly competitive political party with presence in all the local government areas and wards of the State. It is remarkable to see SDP flags hanging out in different corners of the State.

Hon Itodo has provided a level playing ground, and a sense of belonging to all the members of SDP in the State, a gesture that has enhanced the present unity of the Party in the State. Last year, he invited all party stakeholders to review the performance of the Party in the last general election and also brainstorm on the way forward.

The meeting afforded the dynamic Chairman the opportunity to know the challenges confronting the party and the way to address them. Party faithfuls were so excited to have come together. Many people who were unhappy with the Party openly expressed their grievances, leading to a pledge by members to continue to support SDP.

In his determination to give Party faithfuls genuine direction, Hon Itodo pursued the inquisition of the Party's new office along old Otukpo road. Strategically located, the office has been equipped with complete facility needed for Party operation, courtesy of the chairman.

Birthday Tribute to a Woman of Substance

Let me start this birthday tribute by congratulating Mrs Alaje O Ann, the humble wife of my humble friend, Mr Emmanuel I Alaje for clocking another year today.

The fact that you are an amazing woman, mother and wife is not in doubt. You have been the backbone of your dear husband and a partner that has made him strong, climbing the rough terrain of life before arriving at the present stable position. That is a woman of substance.

In an increasingly complex world like this, one has to be grateful to God when a person is able to celebrate another year. This forms the reason why Mr Emmanuel Alaje is full of gratitude to God for adding another year to his beloved wife.

According to Mr Alaje, a good wife is a precious gift from God and he is not taking that for granted in respect of his wife. He confessed how lucky a man he is to be blessed with such a humble woman.

Mrs Alaje Ann is considered as a disciplinarian who ensures that her family do what is right all the time, as a supportive partner in the family. A devoted christian, Mrs Alaje Ann does not pretend about her commitment to the service of God and dedication to humanity.

NATASHA'S INTEMPERATE OUTBURST

From Thursday, February 20, the social and mainstream media have been abuzz with a trending story of an abberant behaviour by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan who decided to create a needles drama on the floor of the Red Chamber alleging marginalization and bullying on grounds of gender and using the pretext ostensibly to divert attention from her moral deficiency of the core values of discipline and responsibility that often lead her into subversive attitude as was exhibited in the shameful melodrama she enacted recently among others on the floor of that hallowed Chamber.

That Senator Natasha Akpoti is a beautiful woman is a fact that surpasses dispute. But beauty is a combination of qualities. When it is at variance with these qualities especially character, a moral dissonance ensues and erodes the value of such considered aesthetics. Beauty is therefore a superficial consideration and insignificant if it is not deep enough to breed character. It becomes mere cosmetic and bereft of value. Natasha has consistently skewed public opinion to view her as merely possessing beauty that lacks depth, nay character. Many believe that it is that lack that railroads her into regular hysteria and belligerence. In June last year, she stirred up these deficiencies and grabbed inelegant headlines. She made a huge din out of a minor incident and unwittingly hoisted the Senate on the throes of disrepute. It took the humility of the President of the Senate to publicly apologize to her and save the Senate from institutional erosion. It was the archetypal Natasha Akpoti on display.

On Thursday the same self styled "goddess" of the Senate, Natasha who chooses to garb herself as an Arab queen returned to the familiar road of controversial melodrama over an elementary matter that she ought to know better. But since she has chosen periodic altercation as a way of life, even a solemn exercise as serving a holy communion could still have provided her the ammunition to launch her tirade against any constituted authority.

The matter which gave impetuosity to her recent aberrant behaviour is simple , straight and succinctly captured in the Senate Standing Order 2023 (as amended). The Senate as any responsible institution is guided by operational rules. These rules are contained in the Standing Order which all senators have and which Natasha quoted albeit dubiously to invoke the rights and privileges that should protect her after bringing the institution of the Senate to disrepute with her indiscretion. In that document, Order 6, Rule 1 vests in the leadership of the Senate the prerogative to assign seats to senators. The same Order 6, Rule 2 asserts that you cannot speak until you are on the seat assigned to you. This parliamentary rule is a known given. And seat adjustments are done without prior notice because it is deemed that no seat is wholly owned by any legislator.

Owing to the defection of two senators to the ruling party recently, there was a need for seat adjustments in consonance with established parameters. The adjustments were done and other senators adhered except Senator Natasha for whatever reason. When she wanted to speak from a seat not assigned her, the Chief Whip, Senator Tahir Munguno, who exercised the authority of the President of the Senate in the seat adjustments raised a Point of Order drawing the attention of the Senate to the fact that Natasha had flouted the rule of the Senate. What the President of the Senate did in sustaining the Point of Order was to protect the highest law making organ in the country from abuse, whims and caprices of individuals.

I am at a loss as to what choice the Senate President had more than the protection of an institution that is critical to the survival of democracy. Senator Natasha has alleged bullying and marginalization. She has alleged that she was assigned a seat that has little visibility. The question is, is this seat outside the semi-circular seating arrangement of the chamber? Has it always been occupied or not ? Has Natasha ever heard of the slogan, "obey before complaining ?" And the chamber by their operational modus is where that precept should be applied stricto sensu. Would Akpabio rather have looked the other way while Natasha bullied everyone else including the Nation?

Senator Sunday Karimi, Chairman, Committee on Senate Services who is also from Kogi State shared his unsavoury experience in the hands of Senator Natasha that same morning . He recounted how she shouted at him using uncharitable words adding that only his upbringing restrained him from reacting. Karimi alleged that she bullied him and breached his rights and privileges.

But Natasha has gone around to paint a picture of persecution whereas she is the real tormentor . It is a reverse psychology where the tormentor plays the victim while unleashing pain and agony on the real victims. In the crisis that ensued in June last year , it is said that Senator Natasha recruited a horde of cyberstalkers to weave fabricated narratives that could defame the Senate President. This time around, she is trying to use the popular Brekete Family Programme to attract sympathy and earn cheap popularity using the populist theory. In her narration to the host, she was completely economical with the truth. She said that she started shouting when her suspension was being read out. No such such thing happened. Her ranting session was not occasioned by any suggestion of suspension. She ranted ceaselessly as a habit despite the collective entreaties of her colleague senators. She railed at Akpabio with venomous invectives training her fingers at him. It was a wanton demonstration of insolence and insubordination. Yet she excluded all of these from her narrative to Brekete Family. She lied egregiously. It was why the host was misled into saying "the masses are with you". Brekete Family advocates for a society that is anchored on justice and the rule of law. I am not sure it would condone those who are not law abiding. Senator Natasha lacks the discipline to comply with simple rules . It would be a contradiction if the Brekete Family supports lawlessness as overtly represented by Senator Natasha.

The people of Kogi State should hence watch who they send to the centre to represent them. Many of them have come as melodramatic personas exhibiting more cantankerous behaviour than the value they are expected to add to national debates and legislation. Wisdom should dictate to the likes of Natasha that she stands to gain more for her people in an atmosphere of peace than in a toxic environment fueled by hate, animosity and antagonism.

GOV ALIA'S SECOND TERM RECEIVED A BOOST AS OBI LOCAL GOVT APC STAKEHOLDERS, PARTY LEADERS PASSED VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

Obi Local Government Area party leaders, stakeholders and elders have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the performance of His Excellency Rev Ft Hyacinth Alia

Motion which was moved to give unalloyed support to the governor and nobody else, by former House of Assembly member, Hon Edo Egboja was unanimously supported by all members. He affirned complete loyalty of the good people of Obi Local Government Area to the governor and said that they would be willing to be there for him till his re-election in 2027.

It was also agreed in the meeting that all the decisions reached in terms of elections of ward party exco shall be honoured by all participants including those who sent messages and were not physically present. The motion to this effect was moved by Hon Ajene Ogbu and was unanimously passed by all members.

The meeting was convened by the Executive Chairman, Obi Local Government Council, Hon Silas Ode Ahonye under the leadership of Distinguished Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Rt Hon Nick Eworo alias Odukelaho.

In his welcome speech, the Executive Chairman of Obi said that the good people of the local government have resolved to work together under the leadership of Rt Hon Nick Eworo for the purpose of re-electing Gov Alia for the second tenure

He further said that the people of Obi Local Government Area, as strong components of the state are satisfied with the performance and directions the governor is taken Benue State to, and therefore pledged the unalloyed support of his people.

Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Rt Hon Nick Eworo employed the people of Obi to continue in this unity saying that the only way they can be respected and recognized is when they are United.

Head of Service, Hon Moses Agbogbo, Barr Jacob Ajene, who were represented urged Obi people to continue supporting the governor. They said that there is no alternative to the governor in 2027.

GOV HYACINTH ALIA MEETS BENUE CITIZENS IN ABIDJAN, AS CHIEF JOSEPH AJAH ONAH BRIEFS ON DEVELOPMENT SO FAR.

Governor Hyacinth Alia met Benue citizens where the plights of Benue State citizens who have been trafficked to Cote d'lvoire in general and the ones in Abdjan in particular have come under serious attention of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Chief Joseph Ajah Onah who is the leader of Benue people in cote d'lvoire has informed that the governor's visit was a good development for them and they have used the opportunity to intimate him on the plights of Benue people in the country.

Recall that last year a large contingent of Benue people who were undergoing different kinds of inhuman treatment in ivory coast were rescued by Chief Ajah Onah and his team and peacefully returned back to the country.

According to the source familiar with their discussion, His Excellency Rev Ft Dr Hyacinth Alia has thanked the Benue State community in Cote D'lvoire and promised them greater support.

CELEBRATING DR MOSES AGBOGBO ODE, BENUE STATE HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE, AS HE MARKS ANOTHER YEAR TODAY.

Today, Dr Moses Agbogbo Ode, Head of Benue State Civil Service is a year older. Dr Agbogbo Ode was appointed Head of Civil Service by His Excellency, Rev Ft Dr Hyacinth Alia in May 2023 to fill the vacuum left behind as a result of retirement of his predecessor..

Dr Agbogbo Ode's appointment came as a reward for his years of meritorious service in the Benue State civil service where he rose steadily to the rank of a Permanent Secretary.

Before becoming the Head of Civil Service, Dr Agbogbo had worked in different places with distinction. He started his civil service career from College of Education Oju as a Bursar. While he was in the College, he was reported to have distinguished himself as a man of truth and integrity.

His commitment to work and duty was equal to none. He ensured that financial discipline and standard were followed and upheld by the College management, a practice that has set him apart from others.

Dr Moses Agbogbo's success in the College therefore has led to his recommendation, subsequent transfer and promotion to the position of permanent secretary in the Benue State civil service.

It is important to note that Dr Moses Agbogbo did not lower his gear of good service, commitment to duty, faithfulness, hard-work, fairness and openness. Since his appointment as Head of Benue State Civil Service, he brought all his qualities to bear in discharging his responsibilities.

Dr Moses Agbogbo Ode has proven beyond doubt that the governor, His Excellency Rev Ft Hyacinth Alia did not make mistake in appointing him to take the position of Head of Service. Dr Agbogbo Ode has fitted perfectly well into the vision of His Excellency to reposition the civil service in Benue State to meet up with modern standard,

It is not a surprise that since he came into office a lot of transformation has taken place in the state civil service. First of all, he lives by example. Dr Agbogbo Ode has set good examples for all his subordinates, including permanent secretaries and directors in terms of punctuality to work and ensuring that no file is left unattended to for 24hours.

In less than two years in office, and with the cooperation and vision of His Excellency, Rev Ft Dr Hyacinth Alia, Benue State civil servants are enjoying a new and transformative life. Apart from the massive renovation of all offices including the famous State Secretariat in Makurdi and the provision of furniture and other infrastructure, the State civil servants are enjoying one of the best and well packaged minimum wage in the federation.

Also today, civil servants are enjoying regular payment of salaries while pension, gratuities are promptly paid to retire civil servants. With good working relationship with the governor, the civil servants are being paid backlog of arrears from 2017 to 2023.

Dr Moses Agbogbo's good working relationship with the various heads of parastatals, agencies and organisations in Benue State has helped in promoting industrial harmony between and amongst the parastatals, agencies and organisations on one hand and between the state government and these organizations and agencies on the other hand.

In fact, it is not possible to say all the good things Dr Moses Agbogbo Ode represent, who he is to many people, communities, associations, clubs, and groups using this short birthday tribute.

But as he marked yet another milestone, my prayers for him are that God will continue to keep him in order to fulfil his destiny for mankind.

On this note, I want to thank His Excellency Rev Ft Dr Hyacinth Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State for considering one of the best Igede sons for the highly esteemed office of the Head of Civil Service. Igede people will remain grateful to you Sir.
