TARABA COMMUNITIES CALL FOR RECALL OF FEDERAL LAWMAKER OVER POOR PERFORMANCE

3rd October, 2025 | 9:50 AM

Communities in Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, and Lau Federal Constituency, Taraba State, have called for the recall of their House of Representatives member, Hon. A. M. Lauya, citing what they described as his “woeful performance” in office.

At a press briefing in Jalingo on Wednesday, community leaders — Abrahim Haruna, Mrs. Asebe Danladi, and Sanusi Bako — accused the lawmaker of neglecting his mandate and failing to deliver meaningful development since his election.

According to them, Lauya has ignored constituency projects, abandoned rural infrastructure, and failed to initiate empowerment programmes for youths and women.

“This constituency cannot continue to suffer neglect while others are moving forward. We have no roads, no boreholes, no support for farmers, and no real representation at the National Assembly. We are tired of empty promises,” one of the leaders said.

They further alleged that Lauya has not sponsored a single bill or motion in the House, branding him the least-performing federal lawmaker from Taraba State.

BENUE: MASS DISPLACEMENT AND INSECURITY GRIP TOMBO COUNCIL WARD AMID FULANI HERDSMEN ATTACKS

3rd October, 2025 | 6:16 AM

Tombo Council Ward, headquartered in Ayilamo, is facing a severe humanitarian crisis as relentless attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen have forced mass displacement across the area. The violence has driven residents from over 10 million hectares of farmland and homesteads, leaving the once-thriving communities desolate.

Displacement:
Most residents have fled, with some seeking refuge in Ayilamo, while others are sheltered by friends and relatives in nearby towns.

Insecurity on All Routes:
Travel in and out of Ayilamo has become perilous.

The Ayilamo–Anyiin route via Akwana is unsafe, with reports that sections of the Jukun community allegedly provide cover for the attackers.

The Ayilamo–Uzer axis has been completely deserted following waves of attacks.

On the Ayilamo–Iwyendyer road, travelers are frequently ambushed, robbed, or killed by armed herdsmen.

Security Concerns:
Despite the deployment of Army and Mobile Police units, residents insist that the attacks persist unchecked. Many suspect either complicity or a lack of decisive action by the deployed forces, as killings and raids continue on a near-daily basis.

Current Situation:
With communities displaced, farmlands abandoned, and lives constantly under threat, tension in Tombo remains at alarming levels. Families live in fear, uncertain of when the next attack may strike.

NBS REPORT: GOV. ALIA PRAISED AS BENUE STAYS DEBT-FREE SINCE 2023

2nd October, 2025 | 10:46 PM

The latest quarterly report from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has hailed Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State as one of the few Nigerian Governors who has not borrowed either foreign or domestic funds since assuming office in 2023.

According to the NBS, while several states have continued to accumulate debts, Benue has remained debt-free under Alia’s leadership, even as the government continues to service and settle liabilities inherited from past administrations.

The report revealed that Oyo State tops the chart with N93.4 billion in foreign debt, followed closely by Kaduna with N62 billion foreign debt and N50 billion local loans. Other states with significant external loans include Gombe (N20.3bn), Zamfara (N28bn), Katsina (N20.3bn), Kebbi (N7.4bn), Jigawa (N10.98bn), Ondo (N5.6bn), Abia (N7bn), Ebonyi (N10.9bn), and Enugu (N10.7bn).

States with a mix of both foreign and domestic debts include Bauchi (N26bn), Borno (N18.2bn), Taraba (N18.7bn), Sokoto (N17bn), Niger (N25.8bn), Kwara (N2.18bn), and Ekiti (N19.8bn).

In contrast, Benue has not borrowed “a dime,” the report noted, yet continues to perform strongly in debt repayment. Commending this approach, the National Debt Management Office (DMO) urged other state governments to emulate Benue’s prudent resource management in order to reduce the burden of unsustainable debts.
