BENUE ASSEMBLY SUSPENDS 4 MEMBERS OVER ALLEGED PLOT TO IMPEACH SPEAKER

22nd August, 2025 | 1:21 PM

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members, including Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, Shimawua Emmanuel Ikong Cyril Ijebe And Abu omoru for 3 months, over an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker.

The decision was taken during plenary at the Assembly complex in Makurdi following deliberations on what was described as “gross misconduct and acts capable of destabilizing the House.”

A delegation from the IOM, led by the Deputy Director General for Operations, Regional Director for West and Central Africa, and a team of ambassadors, we visited some of our IDP camps in Benue State.

What we witnessed was a sober reminder of the heavy price our people have paid as a result of conflicts and insecurity. Yet, it was equally a reminder of their resilience, strength, and unbroken hope.

The visit was part of our shared commitment to securing durable solutions for our brothers and sisters. Our ultimate goal is to ensure their safe return to their ancestral homes, restore dignity, and rebuild communities where peace and prosperity can thrive.

I remain committed to working hand in hand with development partners, humanitarian agencies, and the Federal Government to mobilize all necessary support to make this a reality for every displaced family in Benue.

Yesterday, the governor of Benue State hosted a special dinner to honour one of Benue State’s most illustrious daughters, Francisca Ordega, OON, a five-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champion and a proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage.

Francisca's journey from the streets of Gboko to international football has inspired countless young people across our state and our nation.

In recognition of her outstanding achievements, and as a symbol of our deep appreciation, the Benue State Government was pleased to present her with the following: ₦50 million naira in cash, a 3-bedroom house in the heart of Makurdi, a street named in her honour, to serve as a lasting legacy, and ₦10 million naira to her coach, the dedicated Gboko coach who first saw her potential and nurtured her talent.

This recognition affirms our commitment to celebrating excellence, rewarding hard work, and inspiring the next generation of Benue sons and daughters to pursue greatness in their chosen fields.

Once again, congratulations to Francisca Ordega. Benue State is proud of you.
