I saw a post that said “if you’re still an upcoming artist at 29, you better find something else to do with your life.”
And honestly, I couldn’t disagree more.
So, what if music is supposed to be your life's work? You should bury it and find something else that is not your life's work to do.
I believe the person making that statement is one of those who see music as something you do just to make money and get famous.
If you are like some of us that music is like "breathing" for, then you will understand better. (If music is something you breathe, you will see that doing it for free is actually better off leaving it for not getting paid).
More so, art, music, creativity, none of these have an expiry date. Being an “upcoming artist” at 29, 39, or even 59 is not a failure. It simply means you’re still on the journey. Everyone’s timeline is different, and success doesn’t follow a single age bracket.
There is nothing wrong with being upcoming at whatever age; insofar as you have other revenue sources that fund your desired lifestyle.
What I will condemn is being complacent as an upcoming artist (no matter how old you are) with no source of income.
Look for businesses that you can do that won't affect your music career.
There is no age limit for doing whatever you choose to do with your life.
Whenever you wake up is your morning.
