PRESS STATEMENT
RE: CLARIFICATION ON THE NDC BENUE STATE GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDACY
The Kwankwasiyya Movement, Benue State Chapter, wishes to address what it considers false and misleading information being circulated regarding the governorship candidacy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Benue State.
According to our understanding of the party's internal processes, the sale of nomination forms was conducted within the approved timeframe and has since closed. Consequently, the NDC is no longer selling nomination forms to any governorship aspirant.
We further state that Engr. Benjamin Iorlumun Jime (Akaakar), Leader of the NDC/Kwankwasiyya Movement in Benue State, purchased the governorship nomination form bearing Serial Number 002, while another form bears Serial Number 092. In our view, this indicates that the form with Serial Number 002 was purchased earlier.
We also note our understanding that the party indicated only one governorship nomination form would be recognized following the completion of its primary process. Based on this understanding and the consensus process conducted by the party's National Working Committee, we maintain that Engr. Benjamin Iorlumun Jime (Akaakar) is the consensus governorship candidate of the NDC in Benue State.
Engr. Benjamin Iorlumun Jime (Akaakar) has continued to support the growth of the party through significant contributions, including the purchase of 17 State House of Assembly Expression of Interest Forms, substantial financial contributions toward National and State Assembly nomination processes, and the establishment of NDC offices in Makurdi, Gwer West, and Vandeikya Local Government Areas.
As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the party's grassroots presence, a five-member committee has been assigned to procure furniture for the three local government offices. The official commissioning of the offices will commence in Makurdi, followed by Gwer West and Vandeikya. Plans are also underway to establish three additional local government offices—two in Benue South (Zone C) and one in Benue North-East (Zone A)—during the month of August.
We therefore call on party members and the general public to disregard information that contradicts this position and to rely on official communications from the appropriate party authorities.
