Officials insist this is not an act of forgiveness, but a calculated security strategy aimed at dismantling extremist networks from within.

At a ceremony in Gombe, military authorities described the programme as a β€œbold step toward peace,” claiming the graduates have undergone intensive psychological rehabilitation, religious reorientation, and vocational training to prepare them for civilian life.

But the announcement has ignited a deeper question many Nigerians are now asking: can those once involved in terror truly be trusted again?

While the government argues that reintegration reduces violence and weakens insurgent recruitment, critics fear the risks may outweigh the promisesβ€”especially for communities still scarred by years of bloodshed.
