Didier Deschamps Bows Out as France Coach After Historic 14-Year Spell

Didier Deschamps has taken charge of his final match as head coach of the France national team, bringing an end to one of the most successful managerial spells in international football.

The 57-year-old leaves after 185 matches, recording 120 wins, 35 draws and 30 defeats during his 14 years in charge of Les Bleus.

Under Deschamps, France enjoyed a golden era. He guided the team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title, finished as runners-up at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, won the 2021 UEFA Nations League, secured third place in the 2025 UEFA Nations League, and led France to the UEFA Euro 2016 final.

His reign will be remembered for restoring France to the top of world football and building one of the strongest national teams of his generation.

Deschamps leaves the France job as one of the country’s greatest coaches, ending a remarkable chapter in Les Bleus’ history.

🧛Chelle🎙️: "I was appointed in January last year. When I arrived, Nigeria had three points out of 12, so we fought hard to try to qualify. Having reached the playoffs, we lost against the Democratic Republic of Congo. We lost on penalties; they deserved the victory.

FIFA World Cup 2026: I Will Not Play for Senegal Again Until Thiaw Is Sacked – Pape Gueye

Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has announced that he will not represent the national team again while Pape Thiaw remains head coach.

According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, the 27-year-old made the declaration after Senegal's dramatic elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the hands of Belgium.

Gueye expressed his frustration in a message posted on social media shortly after the defeat.

He revealed that he intended to step away from international football while the current coaching staff remained in charge.

“l’Il be back to give you a few words regarding elimination… but I announce today that as long as it’s this technical staff I’ll take a break from the selection,” he wrote.

Senegal appeared to be on course for a place in the round of 16 after establishing a two-goal advantage.

However, Belgium mounted a late comeback by scoring twice to force extra time, before Youri Tielemans converted the decisive penalty to seal the Teranga Lions' exit from the tournament.
