DEMOCRACY DAY 2026: BENUE APC CELEBRATES NIGERIANS, COMMENDS PRESIDENT TINUBU AND GOVERNOR ALIA FOR DEEPENING DEMOCRACY AND DELIVERING GOOD GOVERNANCE

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Benue State Chapter, joins millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora in celebrating the 2026 Democracy Day, a historic occasion that symbolizes the triumph of the democratic will of the people and the collective sacrifices of patriots who fought courageously for the restoration and sustenance of democratic governance in our country.

Today, we pay tribute to the heroes and heroines of democracy whose sacrifices, resilience, and commitment to justice laid the foundation for the democratic freedoms and constitutional governance we enjoy today. We equally salute all Nigerians who continue to uphold the principles of democracy through active citizenship, peaceful participation in governance, and unwavering belief in the unity and progress of our nation.

The APC Benue State Chapter heartily congratulates the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting national unity, implementing courageous economic reforms, and providing visionary leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The party acknowledges the bold and strategic steps taken by President Tinubu's administration towards repositioning the Nigerian economy, improving critical infrastructure, enhancing national security, expanding opportunities for investment, and laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity for present and future generations.

As we commemorate Democracy Day, we proudly celebrate the remarkable leadership and transformative governance being provided by the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, whose administration has continued to redefine governance through purposeful leadership, accountability, transparency, and people-oriented policies.

Since assuming office, Governor Alia has demonstrated exceptional commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy across the length and breadth of Benue State. His administration has embarked on unprecedented infrastructural development, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads, improvement of public facilities, expansion of educational infrastructure, revitalization of healthcare institutions, and implementation of reforms aimed at restoring efficiency and productivity within the public service.

The Governor's strategic investments in agriculture, youth empowerment, human capital development, security interventions, and rural development have continued to improve the lives of citizens while creating new opportunities for economic growth and prosperity. His administration's commitment to prudent resource management and responsible governance has restored public confidence in government and strengthened the bond between leadership and the people.

The APC particularly commends Governor Alia for fostering peace, promoting inclusiveness, strengthening institutions of governance, and ensuring that government remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people. Through his visionary leadership, Benue State is witnessing a renewed sense of hope, progress, and development, thereby reinforcing the true essence and benefits of democratic governance.

The party also extends profound appreciation to traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, security agencies, party faithful, elected representatives, public servants, the media, community leaders, and all stakeholders whose contributions have continued to strengthen democracy and support the successful implementation of government policies and programmes in Benue State and across Nigeria.

We especially thank the people of Benue State for their unwavering support, trust, and confidence in the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia. Their cooperation, patience, and commitment to peace have significantly contributed to the successes recorded thus far. We encourage them to sustain their support as the administration continues to execute its developmental agenda for a greater and more prosperous Benue.

GOVERNOR ALIA MOURNS HEAD OF SERVICE, DR. MOSES AGBOGBO ODE: PAYS GLOWING TRIBUTE TO THE ASTUTE ADMINISTRATOR

The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has expressed profound grief over the sudden passing of the Head of Civil Service, Dr. Moses Agbogbo Ode, describing his death as a huge void in the administration.

In a statement issued in Makurdi before departing for the final interment in Obi Local Government Area, the Governor said the late Head of Service was more than the head of the state bureaucracy.

He said Dr. Ode was the steady hand that guided the engine room of government, a reformer, mentor, and custodian of true public service ethics. Under his leadership, the Benue State Civil Service witnessed renewed discipline, improved efficiency, and a stronger commitment to merit, transparency, and service delivery.

The Governor described Dr. Ode as a man of uncommon integrity who served with quiet dignity and fierce loyalty to Benue. He understood that governance is about people, not power. From junior clerk to permanent secretary, he treated every civil servant with respect and demanded, by personal example, the highest standards of duty. His door was open, his counsel was wise, and his commitment to workers’ welfare was unwavering.

Gov. Alia said the late Head of Service will be remembered for driving critical reforms that repositioned the service for a modern Benue. He believed that a motivated civil service was the foundation of a working state and labored daily to make that vision real.

The Governor extended his deepest condolences to the Ode family, noting that while Benue has lost a son, the family has lost a pillar. The policies he shaped, the officers he mentored, and the standards he set will serve generations yet unborn as his name is now written into the legacy of the state.

The Governor prayed that the Almighty God would grant Dr. Ode eternal rest and give all, especially the family, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“He came, he served, and he left Benue better than he met it. For that, the Government and people of Benue State are eternally grateful.”

REBUILDING BENUE'S EDUCATIONAL FUTURE: THE TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP OF DR. GRACE ADAGBA AT SUBEB.

Sustainable development is measured not only by physical infrastructure but by the quality of education available to future generations. Guided by this philosophy, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has prioritized educational renewal as a cornerstone of his administration's agenda.

At the forefront of this transformation is the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), under the leadership of Dr. Grace Adagba, whose stewardship has ushered in a remarkable resurgence of basic education across the state.

Over the past three years, SUBEB has spearheaded extensive infrastructural development, resulting in the construction and rehabilitation of over 253 school facilities, including 422 classrooms, libraries, administrative blocks, sanitation facilities, boreholes, perimeter fencing, and hostels. These interventions have significantly improved learning environments and restored dignity to public schools.

Beyond infrastructure, the administration has strengthened educational delivery through the provision of over 13,000 classroom furniture units, more than 207,000 textbooks, instructional materials, sporting equipment, and agricultural tools. These investments reflect a deliberate commitment to enhancing both teaching and learning outcomes.

Institutional reforms have equally repositioned SUBEB for greater efficiency. The establishment of specialized departments for digital resources, planning and statistics, and physical planning has improved administrative capacity, accountability, and data-driven decision-making. Payroll automation and personnel verification exercises have further enhanced transparency and operational effectiveness.
Recognizing that quality education depends on motivated educators, the government has sustained salary payments, implemented promotions, and provided leadership training for head teachers. These measures have strengthened morale and improved school management across the state.

A landmark achievement of the administration is the introduction of the Benue School Grant Scheme, which allocates direct funding to public schools for essential operational expenses. The initiative not only improves school administration but also reinforces the government's commitment to free and accessible basic education while discouraging the imposition of unauthorized levies.

To enhance educational oversight, motorcycles were distributed to Quality Assurance Officers across the 23 local government areas, enabling more effective monitoring of schools, particularly in rural communities.

Perhaps most significantly, the recruitment of qualified teachers has addressed longstanding manpower shortages, revitalizing classroom instruction and improving educational standards throughout the state.

Today, the impact of these reforms is evident across Benue. From modernized classrooms and improved learning resources to stronger institutions and empowered teachers, SUBEB's achievements under Dr. Grace Adagba's leadership represent more than policy success, they signify the restoration of hope, confidence, and excellence in public education.

The classroom revolution is no longer a promise; it is a reality unfolding across communities, shaping a brighter future for the children of Benue State.
