‘Anambra will serve as litmus test’ — Tinubu tasks Amupitan on credible elections

President Bola Tinubu has tasked Joash Amupitan, the newly sworn-in chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with ensuring that the forthcoming Anambra governorship election serves as a model of credibility and transparency.

At the swearing-in ceremony held on Wednesday at the State House, Tinubu said Amupitan’s appointment and senate confirmation signify confidence from both the executive and legislative arms of government.

The president urged the new INEC chairman to discharge his duties with integrity, dedication, and patriotism, describing his assumption of office as the beginning of a challenging but rewarding journey.

Tinubu said Nigeria’s democracy has grown stronger through institutional reforms and innovations but must continue to improve to meet the expectations of the people.

He noted that credible elections are essential to sustaining public trust and deepening democratic governance.

“The significant achievement marked the beginning of a challenging yet rewarding journey and I trust that you will approach your responsibilities with the highest level of integrity, dedication and patriotism,” Tinubu said.

In Alia, Benue Has Found the Will and the Way

By Tersoo Kula, mnipr

For years, Benue State has yearned for a leadership that not only understands its challenges but possesses the courage, clarity, and conviction to confront them head-on. Governance in the state had often been trapped in the web of politics without purpose where excuses replaced action and inertia masked as strategy.

But today, under the stewardship of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Benue has finally found what it long desires: The Will and The Way.

Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia represents a rare blend of moral strength, administrative discipline, and visionary focus. His emergence was not another mere political transition it was a people’s revolution, a collective sincere yearning for transformation.

Thus, since assuming office, he has proven that leadership is not merely about occupying a seat of power, but about having the political will to do what is right and the way to do it effectively.

The will, in leadership, is the inner fire, the burning desire, the determination to serve selflessly, to make tough decisions, and to stand firm in the face of resistance.

The Reverend gentleman's will has been evident in his bold steps to restore order, transparency, and accountability in public service.

Where in the past, administrations tolerated laxity and truancy, Alia insists on commitment, dedication to duty and discipline; Where corruption thrives, he instills meticulous scrutiny.

It is an indisputable fact that he has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the welfare of civil servants; ensuring regular payment of wages and pensions, a moral obligation long neglected. His courage to break away from misanthropic entrenched political patronage has unjustifiably unsettled some entitled elites, but endeared him to the people.

In Alia, Benue sees a leader who places the interest of the masses above personal gain or partisan loyalty.

Again, having the will alone is not enough; a leader must also have the way, the strategy, competence, and method to translate vision into reality. Alia’s approach to governance is guided by prudence, planning, and measurable action.

He is deploying resources with precision investing in road infrastructures, healthcare, education, and agriculture. Through his reforms, the civil service is becoming more efficient, public infrastructure is being revived, and hope is being restored in communities once forgotten.

His emphasis on value-for-money projects reflects a shift from wasteful spending to purposeful development.

The Alia administration’s interventions in agriculture, a key pillar of Benue’s economy show strategic foresight. By empowering farmers with inputs, tools, and access to markets, he is paving the way for economic independence and food security. His government’s focus on youth empowerment, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship further underscores his commitment to building a self-reliant generation.

A New Dawn for Benue
What makes Governor Alia’s leadership remarkable is not just what he is doing, but how he is doing it with sincerity, humility, and a sense of mission.
He listens to the people, acts decisively, and measures progress not by politics but by impact.

For the first time in many years, Benue’s citizens are witnessing a government that works with purpose and direction. The cynicism of yesterday is giving way to confidence today. There is a renewed belief that the state can rise above its challenges from insecurity to underdevelopment and reclaim its rightful place as the food basket of the nation.

Indeed, in Alia, Benue has found both the will to change and the way to succeed. A governor who dreams big but acts wisely; who speaks less but delivers more.

And as history will surely record, when the state needed a leader of courage and capacity, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia answered the call.

REVOLUTION IN PRIMARY EDUCATION UNDER GOV. ALIA ADMINISTRATION

A Vignette by: Igbetar Jerry Signor ,
SA Digital Media/Communication

Revolution they said is a social phenomenon involving fast-moving fundamental Changes in the Political, Economic and Socio-cultural spheres of a society, most especially the one in quest to Develop.

This definition finds expression in Gov. Alia's Primary Education Revolution in Benue State within his first 2 years as Governor where through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), over 250 primary schools across the 23 LGAs are worked upon with many already completed while some are ongoing; New ones built, old structures revamped to reflect a high taste of conviviality for pupils and students alike.

It must be noted that Fr. Alia is the first Governor to have executed the construction of Storey buildings and ICT centres sophisticatedly equipped at the primary level of education in Benue State. This milestone ought to have been appreciated by all, considering the state of primary education penultimate his coming on board as Governor.

The most striking one is the Governor's intentional move towards quality knowledge acquisition and management where he swiftly hired 9,700 teachers to address the problem of manpower shortage, which had lasting reverberation in the past.

Today, public/primary education is not only revived, it is back on track, it has been reinvigorated and manned in strong competition with the private thus, making education very affordable to all.

Suffice is to state that any serious Nation seeking to exponentially development must take account of its Education policies. Such a State is either left to make Education a priority to survive or jettison it to die.

The Governor has freed the Benue Populace from fixed indoctrination and catechizing. What a Man! We must leverage on this "Goodwill" to develop and build a future that beams to unlast the present.

History will be kind to you, Your Excellency.

Long live our Governor,
Long live Benue State,
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria.
