Over one million students from polytechnics and technical colleges across Nigeria are set to march in Abuja on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, in a show of appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s bold reforms in the education sector.

Organized by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), the march, themed "Adupe Mr. President", is described as “a march of gratitude, not protest.”

Students from all ND/HND-awarding institutions nationwide are expected to converge at the Unity Fountain and proceed peacefully to the Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

According to the organizers, the decision to march stems from several landmark interventions by the federal government under President Tinubu, which they say are transforming Nigeria’s technical education landscape:

Students in technical colleges now receive ₦45,000 monthly grants—not loans—as support from the federal government.

Tragedy struck in Sokoto State on Sunday afternoon as six people lost their lives following a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Gwabro village, located within Tangaza Local Government Area.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Ahmad Rufai, who verified the casualty figure but withheld further operational details pending ongoing investigations.

Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene, which unfolded amidst Eid-el-Kabir festivities. One witness, who identified himself as Hashimu, recounted how youths traditionally travel between villages to pay Salah homage to relatives and community elders. It was during one such visit that the group encountered the deadly blast.

“All of a sudden, there was a loud explosion. We later realized some of our people had been killed instantly,” Hashimu said, visibly shaken.

Local authorities acted swiftly following the blast.
