NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT ENGAGES HIGH-LEVEL STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW NIGER HEALTH AGENDA
The Niger State Government has engaged experts and specialists in health sector as part of synergy to collaborate with the Leadership of the 25 Local Government Areas of the State.
Farmer Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago, represented by his Deputy Comrade Yakubu Garba, said the engagement is timely, purposeful, and strategic in reflecting the State's shared belief of a strong, functional healthcare system as the backbone of a productive and prosperous society.
The event held today at the Haske Luxury Hotel Minna, highlighted the significance of the grassroots as critical where people live, work, and seek care.
Yakubu Garba stated that Healthcare delivery in the State has faced serious challenges with inadequate infrastructure, shortage of skilled personnel, limited funding, weak referral systems and gaps in primary healthcare services.
The Deputy Governor pointed out that the State Government's challenges, is most visible at the Local Government level, noting that the high level engagement will strengthen the Primary Health Care services in the 25 Local Governments areas of the State. reiterating the theme of the engagement, Yakubu Garba said, is to βStrengthen Healthcare Delivery in Niger State,β underscoring the importance of synergy between the Ministry of Health and Local Government leadership.
Speaking during the high level engagement, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr Murtala Muhammad Bagana described Healthcare development as sacrosanct that cannot succeed in isolation, adding that it requires joint planning, shared ownership, and a clear sense of responsibility from all levels of leadership to function effectively and efficiently.
Dr. Bagana highlighted key priority areas that demand collective focus, as strengthening Primary Health Care with functional and well-equipped primary healthcare centres as a foundation of an effective Healthcare system.
Furthermore, the Permanent secretary Niger State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, emphasized that human resources remain critical in the health sector, adding that workers are the heart of the system.
The Permanent Secretary pointed out that no facility can function effectively without trained, motivated, and committed personnel, noting that the State Government is addressing staffing gaps, by ensuring continuous training in creating an enabling environment where healthcare workers feel supported and valued at the Local Government level.
Also, the representative of the United Nations Children Education Fund UNICEF, emphasized that, functional primary Health Care facilities reduces pressure on the secondary and tertiary hospitals that ensure healthcare accessibility and affordability in rural and underserved communities.
