Female arms courier jailed 20 years for terrorism

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced a woman, Halima Haliru Umar, to 20 years imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.

Ms Halima was convicted on the offences of unlawful and illegal possession of 302 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition and attempt to render support for the commission of acts of terrorism.

โ€œI Almost Lost My Jobโ€ โ€” Gbajabiamila Distances Self From Desmond Elliott Over Obasa Impeachment Saga

Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that he nearly lost his position during the Lagos Assembly crisis linked to the impeachment saga involving Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Speaking during a constituency stakeholdersโ€™ meeting in Lagos on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Gbajabiamila said President Tinubu summoned him to his Abuja residence and questioned him over intelligence reports alleging that Surulere lawmaker Desmond Elliott was among those fueling the crisis. Gbajabiamila said he initially defended Elliott, but the president insisted security reports suggested otherwise.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives further disclosed that the Director-General of the DSS later informed him that his own name was being linked to the impeachment plot because of his relationship with Elliott. According to him, he immediately urged Elliott to publicly deny involvement in the controversy, but claimed the lawmaker has yet to make any statement distancing himself from the saga.
