Lafia Flyover: NUJ Slams Detractors, Tasks Gov. Sule to Step Up Security

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nasarawa State Council has described as mischievous the rumored collapse of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Interchange commonly known as Lafia flyover and underpass, stressing that it was the handiwork of mischief makers.

The Union, in a communique at the end of its July Congress Meeting, stated this, calling on the mischief makers to look at ways towards enhancing development strides not to bring destruction and confusion to governance.

The meeting which was chaired by the Council boss, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, expressed concern on the growing spate of insecurity in some parts of the state, commending Governor Abdullahi Sule and security agencies for rising up to their responsibilities.

The communique acknowledged the honor extended to immediate past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who died during a prolonged ill health in a London clinic, calling on journalists across the nation to hold public office holders accountable as watchdogs of the society.

"The Congress inaugurated an enforcement committee to liaise with the security agencies to tackle the indiscriminate use of NUJ and press stickers on private and commercial vehicles. The committee is also to cooperate with the security agencies to flush out quacks impersonating as journalists and extorting the unsuspecting members of the public"

"The Congress recognised the determination of the government in addressing security and social issues, praising Governor Abdullahi Sule on his laudable physical infrastructure development, which has given the state a facelift among the comity of states in the federation".

"The Congress called on politicians and philanthropists to support the NUJ Secretariat with development projects by completing its ongoing structures, maintaining that a safe, secure facility promotes a better work mindset".
