VIDEO: 'I Won't Be Minister' - Wike's Old Video Trends Following Ministerial Nomination

An old video of the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, saying he did not intend to become a minister after his tenure as governor has begun to trend following his nomination in the ministerial list.

In the trending video, Wike was heard saying, “Only one person can be a minister from a state, I will not be a minister. I will not. I am not a liability, Rivers State is an asset.

“So if you don’t want to win an election, it’s your business. I’m not the one running the election.

“He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches him”.

Wike, and his colleague from Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai, made the list of ministerial nominees.

Tinubu Blamed Emefiele For The Country's Economic issues But Praised The Man Who Appointed Him - Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed his concern over the deepening poverty in the country and the skyrocketing inflation during President Bola Tinubu's administration, which has made innocent Nigerians vulnerable to manipulation in just 40 days

He also lament that that Tinubu criticized Emefiele for the economic issues in the country and commended the individual responsible for his appointment. The politician made this statement through his special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu

In his own words, Atiku Abubakar said "Today, the affordability of food has become a luxury. The purchasing power of the people has significantly declined, primarily due to an unplanned removal of petrol subsidies without accompanying palliative measures. With a mere N1,000, anyone on the street can be handed a t-shirt and placard to participate in protests they have no understanding of.

"Nigeria has sunk to such a low state since Tinubu assumed leadership. Tinubu holds Godwin Emefiele responsible for the country's economic struggles and has even ordered his detention, while simultaneously lavishing praise on the individual who not only appointed Emefiele but also awarded him a national honor. Such hypocrisy reaches its pinnacle here."

CBN, CBE Set Up ‘Nigeria-Egypt FinTech Bridge’

CAIRO - The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a Nigeria-Egypt FinTech Bridge.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Seamless North Africa 2023 conference at the Egypt International Exhibition Center, Cairo, on July 17 – 18, 2023, comes after a series of engagements on issues around payment systems, financial technology, and financial inclusion in Africa.

Speaking at the event, the CBN Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, who signed on behalf of the CBN, said that the Bank was extremely excited by the partnership with the Central Bank of Egypt, which followed several months of engagement on payments, fintech and financial inclusion.

“We look forward to cultivating an innovative space for fintech startups and entrepreneurs in Egypt and Nigeria to accelerate financial inclusion, deepen our payment systems and drive economic growth across the African Continent,” Mrs. Ahmad declared.

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Egypt, Mr. Rami Aboulnaga, commended the MOU and expressed optimism that the partnership would yield the desired expectation.

The groundbreaking partnership between the apex banks of the two largest economies in Africa encompasses a broad range of collaborative initiatives, including joint regulatory innovation projects, coordinated licensing and supervisory frameworks, information sharing, fintech cross referrals and talent development.

The conference was hosted by the Central Bank of Egypt and had in attendance over 4,000 policymakers, payment service providers, financial institutions and technology startups from Egypt, Nigeria and across the African continent.
