OPINION: Is Governor Sule Truly From Nasarawa North?

When shall this development reach our people in Nasarawa North? A question we can never stop asking.

Each day we wake up to a new story that one projects is commissioned or the other in Keffi or Lafia zones. The Nasarawa North is left to face the challenges of asking the question, where have they gone wrong when they have a governor from their zone? Is Governor Sule truly from Nasarawa North?

Just 2-days ago, another challenging success for us in Nasarawa North. His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule laid the foundation for the construction of two Federal Government Projects, in Lafia and Keffi respectively. The Skill Development Centre and Integrated Engineering and Science Laboratory for Northcentral geopolitical zone in Keffi, and the ground breaking for the Permanent Site of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Development Institute (AMEDI), Lafia.

The question to ask again is what exactly is going on? The northern zone of the state doesn't have any federal government presence, and to worsen the situation, all the visits of Mr President and the Vice President, none of them have ever visited the zone. Also to worsen the situation, neither Dangote nor any of the private sector mogul saw it right to visit the zone.

What could be the challenge?

I want Nasarawa to pay salaries without recourse to federal allocation, says Engineer Sule
...as TUC declare total support for Governor's second term bid

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, said his vision is for the state to have enough savings to be able to pay salaries of workers without depending on the monthly federal allocation.

Engineer Sule made this known when he hosted officials of the state chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), at the Government House, on Tuesday.

According to the Governor, even though Nasarawa State belongs to the category of states referred to as civil service state, with the state having the wait for the arrival of monthly federal allocation before it could pay salary of workers, his administration is working towards ensuring that the state more than salary as savings in the bank.

"My dream, and I am praying by the grace of God, I will leave the state in that order. My dream is to ensure that we have more than salary kept as savings in the bank. That way, every month, before we even receive our allocation, because it's a liability on our part, a responsibility that we must take care of anyway, so we can go ahead and pay our salaries and when the money comes, it will just go and replace that," he stated.

He disclosed that, his administration has so far saved some money mainly for the payment of gratuity, towards sustaining the payment of gratuity to retired civil servants.

"So far, we have been saving. We have saved some money purely for this gratuity. Because we started paying gratuity, a certain amount every month.

"We have already gotten the people to be used to every two or three months, the elderly will come and line up and they will be paid off their gratuity. Since we got people to get used to that, I don't want to stop. And that is the reason why we have made some savings, not something that we have found on ground," he said.

Akwanga LG chair hails Governor Sule for constructing rural road abandoned over 3 decades ago

Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, has commended the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, for undertaking the construction of the Nunku/Agyaga/Rinze, abandoned even before the creation of Nasarawa State from the Old Plateau State.

Hon. Isa Andaha while speaking with journalists, Monday, on the impact of the rural roads being constructed by the Engineer A A Sule administration, said the Nunku/Agyaga/Rinze road, abandoned over three decades ago, will connect nearly 34 villages that is predominantly agrarian.

The council chairman, while appreciating the governor for affording rural farmers with access to markets in Akwanga and Andaha, said the impact of the road is immeasurable considering that farmers can now take their produce to markets in Andaha and Akwanga, instead of Gwantu, in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

"Before now, our people in those villages mentioned normally take their farm produce to Gwantu in Sanga Local Government Area of neighbouring Kaduna State but with the award of the contract, I want to believe that our people will find it so easy now to bring their farm produce into Akwanga and Andaha markets," he said.

The council chairman disclosed that other rural roads being undertaken by the Engineer A A Sule administration include the Andaha/Ancho/Rinze, as well as the Andaha/Bayan Dutse, which when completed, will open of the rural communities and ease off challenges of transportation for local farmers conveying their farm produce to markets.

He pointed out that another direct impact of the rural roads projects is that it affords the teeming unemployed youths from the benefiting communities to be engaged by the contractors handling the projects.

Engineer Sule appeals to ASUU NSUK chapter to suspend ongoing national strike action

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has appealed to the Academy Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) chapter, to pull out from the ongoing national strike.

Engineer Sule made the call during a meeting he convened with members of the Union, at the Government House, on Wednesday.

Also involved in the meeting were the management of the university, as well as some selected officials of the state government namely, Nasarawa State Head of Civil Service Mr Abari Nicholas Aboki, Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatu Jimaita Sabo and the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barrister Mohammed Ubandoma Aliyu.

The Governor said it has become necessary for the union at the state owned university to consider ending the six months long strike, which they embarked upon solely for solidarity with the national body of ASUU.

He said it has become imperative for him to convene the meeting in order for the parties to put heads together with a view to arriving at a solution.

Engineer Sule said initially he didn't want to interfere with the ongoing strike at the NSUK, since ASUU joined the strike in solidarity with their national body, however he had to wade in because the strike is taking a little bit too long and it's affecting the education of the people of the state.

He appealed to the university lecturers to understand that Nasarawa State is different from other states.

"We are not a state that is very buoyant. We are a state that is growing steadily. We are a state that is currently receiving some attention. So, if there's any time that we can do something positive, different from the rest of the country, I always call on the good people of the state to see if we can do that," he stated.

The Governor emphasized that, his administration is willing to discuss peculiar issues affecting the members staff at the state university,
