POLITICAL RAT RACE AND THE SENATE AS GOVERNORS’ RETIREMENT HOME: IMPLICATIONS, EFFECTS, AND CONSEQUENCES
One of the growing political realities in many developing democracies is the transformation of the Senate into what many now describe as a “retirement home for former governors.”
After serving as governors, many political office holders immediately redirect their political machinery toward the Senate, not necessarily because of legislative passion or national service, but to preserve influence, maintain relevance, secure political immunity, and sustain control over political structures.
This political rat race has created deep consequences for governance, democracy, and national development.
THE POLITICAL RAT RACE
Politics was designed to be a platform for service.
But gradually, it has become a continuous struggle for survival and relevance.
Instead of leaving office after serving their states, many political leaders move directly from:

* outdated thinking
* repeated mistakes
* policy repetition without progress
2. LEGISLATIVE COMPROMISE
A Senate dominated by former governors may gradually shift
