A shocking child trafficking and exploitation case has surfaced in Nigeria after a young mother allegedly lost her newborn baby through a controversial arrangement involving a trusted family friend.
According to reports, the woman, who had been struggling financially while raising her 8-year-old son alone, reportedly survived by selling food items online for as little as ₦2,000. Sources claim the father of her first child contributed little to their welfare, leaving her in severe hardship.
In search of survival, she allegedly agreed to a surrogacy arrangement introduced by a family friend, with a promised payment of ₦2 million. However, instead of a medical IVF process, the couple involved reportedly convinced her to conceive naturally.
The woman allegedly moved into their residence and became pregnant before delivering the child at a private maternity facility. After delivery, she reportedly received only ₦700,000 instead of the agreed amount.
She later returned to Lagos, where she reportedly used the money to rent an apartment and start a small business that eventually collapsed.
Months later, she became pregnant for her partner. Reports say the couple could not afford proper medical care, prompting her to seek financial assistance again from the same family friend.
After learning about the pregnancy through a video call, the friend allegedly offered her ₦3 million for the unborn baby. She reportedly rejected the proposal, insisting the child belonged to her and her partner.
The family friend then allegedly persuaded her to relocate to Aba with promises of support throughout the pregnancy. However, according to reports, pressure to hand over the baby allegedly continued until the relationship between both women broke down.
After giving birth in a hospital and struggling to pay medical bills, the woman reportedly contacted the same family friend again for assistance.
In a dramatic twist, the family friend allegedly arrived at the hospital and disappeared with the newborn while the mother was briefly away. Shortly afterwards, the mother reportedly received a transfer of ₦1.1 million alongside warnings to remain silent.
The case later drew the attention of activist VeryDarkMan after the woman repeatedly reached out for help.
Sources say the activist worked with law enforcement authorities to track down and arrest the suspects in Owerri.
Investigators reportedly discovered that the baby had allegedly been transferred to a lawyer for ₦4.5 million. The lawyer allegedly claimed they believed the process involved a legitimate motherless babies home.
Both suspects are currently facing investigation, while the child has reportedly been reunited with the biological mother.
Reports also claim the activist has provided educational support for the woman’s 8-year-old son and financial assistance to help the mother rebuild her life.
The incident has triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for stricter laws against illegal adoption networks, child trafficking, and exploitation of vulnerable women.
