Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has inaugurated the construction of 141 urban roads across 13 zones in the state capital, reinforcing his administration's dedication to transforming Enugu into a premier hub for investment, business, tourism, and quality living.

The zones set to benefit from this extensive infrastructure initiative include Abakpa, Achara Layout, Asata, Awkunanaw, Coal Camp, Independence Layout, New Haven, Old GRA, Thinkers Corner, Trans-Ekulu, and Uwani. The official flag-off ceremonies took place at Ologo in the Coal Camp Zone, Enugu North LGA, and Monaque Avenue in the Awkunanaw Zone, Enugu South LGA—communities that have faced neglect for over four decades.

Governor Mbah emphasized that these road projects are integral to his administration's vision of eradicating poverty and expanding Enugu State's economy to $30 billion. He highlighted that improved infrastructure reduces transportation costs and enhances residents' quality of life by increasing disposable income and fostering economic growth.

To ensure timely completion, the 141 roads have been organized into 17 lots, with a targeted completion timeline of three months. The governor assured that financial provisions are in place and that only competent contractors have been engaged to deliver quality work within the stipulated period.

Residents of the affected communities, including Chief Chris Okaka and Chief Ifeanyi Nnaji, expressed gratitude for the government's intervention, noting that the era of neglect has ended. Governor Mbah also commended the Council Chairmen of Enugu North and Enugu South, Hon. Ibenaku Onoh and Hon. Caleb Ani, for their dedication to grassroots development, aligning with the state's vision for a thriving and prosperous Enugu.

This comprehensive road construction initiative underscores the administration's commitment to empowering the people of Enugu and creating opportunities for wealth generation through strategic infrastructure development.

Update on Kaduna school kidnap.

At least least 312 students and a principal, Abubakar Isah were abducted on Thursday March 7, when bandits invaded the LEA Primary and Junior Secondary School, Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Officials of the school and community leaders told Governor Uba Sani, who visited the school on Thursday, that 187 students were abducted from the secondary school section and 125 from the primary school section.

One of the teachers, Sani Abdullahi who escaped the abduction, said 25 of the pupils from the primary section had returned, leaving 287 students and the principal in custody of the bandits.

Abdullahi told the governor that at exactly 7:47am, he entered the acting principal’s office to sign his attendance when, suddenly, the bandits surrounded the school premises.

He said: "We became confused; we didn’t know where to go. Then, the bandits asked us to enter the bush, so we obeyed them because there were many of them, and the pupils, who are about 700 were following us. So, when we entered the bush, I was lucky to escape alongside many other people.

"So, I returned to the village and reported what happened to the community. So, immediately our vigilantes and personnel of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS) followed the bandits, but the vigilantes did not succeed. In fact, the bandits killed one of the vigilantes; we just buried him a short while ago."

Governor Sani assured the government would do all possible to ensure all the children would return soon....

Four Siblings Trapped To Death As Building Collapses In Enugu

Tragedy struck in Mgbemena, Coal Camp, Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State as a building which collapsed on Friday claimed the lives of four siblings.

The chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency (ECTDA), Hon. Uche Anya, who visited the scene of the incident, expressed his condolences.

Anya described the loss of innocent children in the tragedy as heartbreaking.

He disclosed that the structure was originally approved for animal husbandry but was converted into a residential building, expressing concern over the unsuitability of the collapsed building for human habitation.

“We immediately responded to the incident upon receiving the information. Unfortunately, four children lost their lives in this tragic event.

“The construction of this building was irresponsible. It was never meant to be occupied by humans. I urge you to visit the site and witness it for yourselves,” he said.

The ECTDA chairman further emphasized the agency’s commitment to raising public awareness about the importance of living in safe and conducive environments to prevent future incidents like this.
