》》In the 20th century, the youngest person to be executed in America was George Stinney Jr. At just 14 years old, he was sentenced to death in an electric chair. From the day of judgment to ex*****on, the boy held a Bible in his hands, consistently proclaiming his innocence.
Stinney has been accused of murdering two white girls. One of the victims was Betty, 11, and the other was 7-year-old Mary. Their bodies were found near their homes. During the trial, all jurors were white and the trial lasted only two hours. Just 10 minutes after the trial, the death sentence was handed down. Stinney's parents were threatened with death and were not allowed to give their son any comfort in court. They were later forced to leave their town
George Stinney spent 81 days in prison before dying and was never allowed to see his parents during that time. He was kept in solitary confinement about 80 kilometres from his hometown. Its ex*****on was performed with the application of 5,380 volts of electricity.
Seventy years after his death, a South Carolina judge proved George Stinney was innocent. The two girls were killed by a beam weighing more than 19kg, which would have been impossible for 14-year-old Stinney to lift, let alone use to inflict lethal blows. The whole case against him was fabricated and Stinney was targeted simply because it was black
This tragic story later inspired Stephen King to write his novel "The Green Mile." It's often said that people in the past were more humane, but that's a blatant lie. People were so cruel then, just as they are now. The only difference is that the cruelty was hidden before, but now it's exposed for all to see.
