Update: Flood in Nsukka chases people from their Homes, Destroy Properties and Businesses; LG Chairman pledges to tackle the Flood

Enugu Road, Nsukka, is the main gateway to the developing town of Nsukka, and it was built to a high standard of dual-carriageway by the Enugu State Government in 2017. Since then, it has served the people of Nsukka very well, eliminating the flooding and poor road infrastructure that the road was known for before the construction.

However, since 2024, the level of flooding on the road has exacerbated, destroying business, properties, and chasing people out of their homes. The flooding on the road around the Ugwuoye axis of the road affects other areas of Nsukka like Amaeze village, Echara Road, and some parts of Orba Road. Whenever it rains heavily, the road becomes unpassable and terrible.

Nsukka residents have called on the Enugu State Government to provide relief as millions of naira have been lost so far due to the persistent flooding - businesses no longer open, children no longer go to school, houses are deserted, and movements are stalled.

Nsukka Local Government has tried to provide relief to the flooding and even tried to clear the waterway in the first quarter of 2025 but all to no avail.

The local government chairman of Nsukka, Engr. Jude Asogwa, has stated that the company who carried out the construction of the road project has been contacted to provide a solution to the flooding and to clear the drainage. The company has promised to carry out the clearing of the drainage during the incoming dry season as they are incapacitated to do so now due to heavy rain.

Update: Enugu State Government revamps Enugu Forest Guards, implements 80,000 Minimum Wage

The Enugu State Government revamps the state security system of Forest Guards. Enugu Forest Guards was established by the Enugu State Government in 2019 following the insecurity in Enugu forests and rural areas. However, the security establishment has suffered a series of issues, from low funding to unstable working procedures.

In August, the State Government decided to revamp the establishment and formalize their operations in the state. The State Government appointed a new board to oversee their operations. Unlike before where the men employed as Forest Guards worked part-time and voluntarily, from now, they'll work full-time and will be paid like regular civil servants.

They have been retrained and deployed to guard Enugu Forests with the vehicles donated to them in 2019.

Enugu villages are also getting involved in safeguarding their communities like Ngwo with the newly formed Ngwo Security Organization.

Breaking: The Embattled CEO of Sujimoto Construction Limited Cries Out

In a video circulating online, the embattled CEO of Sujimoto Construction Limited, Suji Ogundele, has cried out. Mr. Suji is wanted by EFCC.

In the video, the embattled CEO stated that his problem began when he was contacted to carry out construction projects for the Enugu State Government.

Mr. Suji said that he was asked to start working on the Smart School buildings in the state but the money budgeted for the buildings was not enough or up to the standard. He only agreed to move on with the projects because he was promised other projects including other building and farm estate projects.

Along the line, he gave up on the projects due to scarcity of funds and harsh working environment. He focused on his other projects. This started his confrontation with the Enugu State Government.

Mr. Suji cried bitterly in the video, eliciting mixed feelings from the public.

Update: WAEC insists that the 2026 WASSCE will be Computer-based to Stamp out Malpractice

WAEC held a meeting with school representatives in August, 2025, reiterating their plan of ensuring that the West African Senior Secondary School Examination of 2026 is computer based and highly regulated. Supported by the Federal Ministry of Education, the adoption of CBT for WASSCE is to ensure malpractices and other forms of illegalities are stamped out in the examination process.

The Summary of the Meeting between School Representatives and WAEC held on 30th August 2025

1. The 2026 WASSCE will be fully computer-based, with no paper-based option.

2. All students will be registered in their respective schools, but WAEC will assign them to designated examination centers.

3. Schools willing to serve as WAEC/CBT centers should notify WAEC as soon as possible.

4. WAEC is particularly seeking more schools in the Lekki/Ajah/Epe axis to indicate interest, as these will be prioritized before additional schools are considered.

5. Objective examinations will be entirely computer-based, with three papers scheduled to be written in a single day.

6. Essay/Theory examinations will be conducted in school halls and projected for students. No question papers will be distributed; only answer scripts will be provided.

7. Practical examinations will be center-based, and supervising teachers must be IT-compliant. Such teachers may or may not be from the host examination center.

8. Practical materials are to be provided by the schools whose candidates are assigned to write at a given center.

9. Schools are not mandated to purchase computers specifically for this purpose. Examinations will hold for all candidates regardless of a school’s readiness.

10. Schools approved as examination centers will be paid by WAEC, even if their own candidates also benefit.

11. A minimum of 50 functional computers is required for a school to be considered as a CBT center, provided it can also accommodate candidates from other schools.
