One day in class, my lecturer was teaching about the different types of malnutrition. He mentioned one that can set in almost immediately , especially when a child loses the consistent care of the mother.
I didn’t fully grasp it then, but today I understand
For almost a week now, I’ve been under the weather and unable to give Zim the kind of attention I usually do. Though his Dad still feeds him at least three times a day, I can clearly see the difference. He’s eating but not with the same intentionality - the extra nutrients, the balanced meals, the extra care I normally put in. Now there’s already a noticeable gap in his weight and it breaks my heart.
This experience has reminded me that mothers truly are the backbone of the household. The little things we do everyday adds up in ways we sometimes take for granted.
I can’t wait to feel better and get back to properly taking care of my boy again.
And to all the mothers out there doing this every single day, even when you’re tired or not feeling well…..May Jah strengthen you.
Your role is bigger than you know.
