BREAKING: The granddaughter of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass (RTA), Sayyidah Fatiha Niang Niass, has won the award for best graduation research in Morocco.

Reports indicate that Sayyidah Fatiha Niang Niass, grandson of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass (RTA) and daughter of Khalifa Sheikh Mohammed Mahy Niass, has won the award for Best Graduate Thesis in International Studies and Diplomacy (International Studies & Diplomacy) from Al Akhawayn University. Ifrane, Morocco.

The title of her investigation is:

"Faithful Diplomacy Across Borders: The Legacy of the Fayda Tijaniyya & Shaykh Ibrahim Niass in Muslim Religious Engagement (1932–2025)."

Which is interpreted by:

"Religious Diplomacy between Nations: The legacy of Faydah Tijaniyya and Sheikh Ibrahim Niass in Islamic Religion (1932-2025). ""

Sayyidah Fatiha bint Sayyidah Zainab Niass has achieved this great achievement after the experience and bachelor's degree in research education, who has received award in the field of international intervention and diplomacy.

ATBU Chief Imam Resigns Over TIMSAN Mosque Approval, Sparks Debate on Muslim Unity

The recent resignation of Professor Mansur Isa Yelwa as the Chief Imam of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has generated widespread discussion within the Muslim community and beyond. The resignation followed the university management's approval of a request by the Tijjaniyyah Muslim Students' Association of Nigeria (TIMSAN) to build a mosque on campus for its religious activities.

In his Juma'at sermon before stepping down, Professor Yelwa explained that his decision was based on concerns that approving a separate mosque for TIMSAN could create divisions among Muslim students. He argued that if one Islamic group were permitted to establish its own mosque, other groups such as the Qadiriyyah, Izala (JIBWIS), Salafiyyah, and Shi'a communities might also request separate worship centres, thereby affecting the unity that he said had been nurtured on campus for the past seventeen years. He further expressed disappointment that the university management did not consult him before granting the approval and declared that he would not resume his position unless the decision was reversed.

In response, the university's Director of Information, Mr. Zailani Bappa, clarified that the approval followed all due administrative procedures and did not violate any law. According to him, TIMSAN requested land primarily to conduct its Wazifa (a recognised Tijjaniyyah devotional practice) after the SHURA Council declined its request to hold the activity inside the existing Gubi Campus Juma'at Mosque. He emphasized that the approval was not for establishing another Juma'at Mosque, noting that the university still maintains only one central Juma'at Mosque on the Gubi Campus.

Mr. Bappa also explained that religious affairs at ATBU are coordinated through the SHURA Council, which oversees Islamic activities and the appointment of Imams. He stated that SHURA was aware of and consented to the process leading to the allocation of land to TIMSAN. He further noted that JIBWIS already operates its own mosque for daily prayers and maintained that peaceful coexistence among different Islamic organisations is both possible and desirable.

It is important to recognize that members of TIMSAN are also Muslims who profess the same fundamental beliefs in Allah, the Holy Qur'an, and the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). While Muslims may differ in matters of jurisprudence or methods of worship that fall within accepted Islamic scholarship, Islam strongly encourages unity, justice, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.

Allah says in the Holy Qur'an:

«"And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided."
(Surah Aal 'Imran 3:103).»

Allah also says:

«"Indeed the believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy."
(Surah Al-Hujurat 49:10).»

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:

«"The believer to another believer is like a building whose different parts support one another."
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).»

He also said:

«"A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. He neither oppresses him nor abandons him."
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).»

These Islamic teachings remind Muslims that differences should be managed through consultation (Shura), wisdom, and mutual respect rather than hostility or division. As long as Islamic activities are conducted peacefully and within the law, preserving brotherhood and maintaining unity should remain the primary objective of every Muslim community.

The situation at ATBU highlights the need for continuous dialogue among university authorities, religious leaders, and Muslim organisations to ensure that institutional decisions promote harmony while respecting the legitimate religious rights of all Muslim groups on campus.
