History Of Osogbo

One of the most accepted history of Osogbo can be traced to 1670 AD. As History had it, It all started with the journey of a famous hunter called Olutimilehin, who hails from Ipole-omu not far from Ibokun. Olutimilehin came across a local Dam while he was in hunting in a place called Gbonmin, around Oke-Baale area ( part of present day Osogbo ) .

Due to the water scarcity facing his community he went around to see if the dam will be capable of sustaining his people. Olutimihen was sad because the dam cannot sustain his community. In his quest Olutimilehin found a stream called Okrokro, which he traced its source to River Osun ( part of present day Osogbo ) . Olutimilehin went back to his community and inform the king, Larooye Gbadewolu of his findings. The king and his subjects later moved to settle at the flood plain and built his first palace later Known as Ile - Osun.

Overtime Larooye and his subjects engaged themselves in farming activities in their new found land. History learn that One day as they were clearing the bush for cultivation they incidentally fall a tree, damaging the Indigenous industry of the spirit world. A voice was heard from the river saying "Laro! Timehin! You have broken my dyeing pots".

Other voices from the spirit world were heard saying! "Oso-igbo pele o, Oso-Igbo rora o. (Oso-igbo we cormistrate with you). Later Larooye got to know the name of the spirit Queen as Oso-igbo (widely believe to be the goodies of River Osun). This is why the Osun goddess was, and is still regarded as the spiritual mother of Oba Larooye and all the succeeding Ataoja (King of Osogbo). History also has it that Larooye and his subjects move to the upper terrace in the plain which they later called OKE Ohuntoto at the present day Osun Groove.

As King Larooye community population grows the groove and their already flourishing market was abadon as they moved to Ode-Osogbo after the usual Ifa devination. The abandoned market centre and the iledi ohuntoto are today important historical monuments in the Osun grooves. At the Ode-Osogbo, Larooye built his new palace at called Idi-Osun while Timehin built a Shrine known as Idi-Ogun. Larooye and his subjects discovered that their new settlements was a centre where footpaths from Oyo, Ekiti, Ijesa etc converged.

Court Grants Emefiele N20m Bail After Six Weeks In DSS Custody

Suspended CBN chief, Godwin Emefiele (left), at the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Tuesday, July 25, 2023

The Federal High Court Sitting in Lagos has granted bail to the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in the sum of N20m with one surety in like sum.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted bail to Emefiele after listening to the submissions of Emefiele’s counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN).

The judge rejected the Federal Government’s claim that Emefiele was a flight risk.

He ruled that the government failed to provide any fact to support its claim.

President Bola Tinubu had suspended Emefiele as the apex bank chief on June 9, 2023. A day after, the Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed that the embattled and suspended CBN chief was in its custody.

After several legal fireworks by Emefiele’s counsel challenging his prolonged detention by the DSS, the secret police bowed to pressure on July 13, 2023 and announced that the suspended apex bank chief has been charged to court.

Emefiele was brought to court by DSS operatives in a hilux vehicle on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Appearing before Justice Oweibo, Emefiele, 61, pleaded “not guilty” to the two counts of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition filed against him by the Federal Government.

In his submissions, Emefiele’s lawyer, Daudu, urged the court to grant bail on self recognizance or on other liberal terms, pending the hearing and determination of the trial.

He said, “There is no counter affidavit from the Federal Government opposing bail. Also, the defendant is a renowned banker and can only stay at his house, he can’t travel anywhere.”

However, counsel for the Federal Government, Nkiru Jones-Nebo, in an oral submission, opposed the bail application, insisting that the prosecution had not been given time to respond in line with the provisions of fair hearing enshrined in the constitution.

She also said that the prosecution had information that the defendant’s refusal to hand in his passport suggested his capacity to evade and abscond from his trial.

103 VICTIMS: Amnesty International investigation not objective – Gbenga Omotoso

Former Commissioner for Information in Lagos state, Gbenga Omotoso said the investigation of the Amnesty International on the alleged killing of 103 persons linked with the ENDSARS protest was not objective.

Omotoso stated this while speaking in an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday.

He said, “In this matter, Amnesty International is not the Amnesty International that I used to know. They are not objective. They are not backing whatever they are saying with any scientific evidences or reasoning.

“Amnesty International itself – the one I used to know – could do this investigation and come out with the truth. But, I suspect that they have been perforated by external forces.

“So Amnesty International can just sit down in its office and begin to issue statement without taking the step to find out the truth,” he said.

Recall that the Amnesty International Nigeria on Monday, demanded a transparent coroner’s inquest on 103 slain EndSARS protesters for whom the Lagos State Government is planning a mass burial, saying the plans should be put on hold.

This follows the emergence of an alleged leaked memo addressed to the Lagos State Ministry of Health indicating that the State Government approved N61,285,000 for the mass burial of 103 persons identified as 2020 EndSARS victims.

The memo, dated July 19, 2023, capturing steps for the processing of funds after approval by the governor, surfaced on social media Sunday morning, sparking outrage.

The Lagos State Government however maintained that the victims to be buried were not from the controversial Lekki Tollgate shooting.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Olusegun Ogboye, while confirming the letter, insisted that the victims were from incidents of violence that occurred in the aftermath of the EndSARS protests.

Speaking on the issue, the Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, Isa Sanusi, in a statement on Monday, said, “The Nigerian authorities must urgently halt their plans to carry out a secret mass burial of victims and instead carry out a thorough and independent investigation into the killings and ensure that those suspected to be responsible are brought to justice in fair trials.”

It added that the authorities must also carry out transparent coroner inquests and autopsies on the 103 victims and publish their identities and the circumstances of their deaths.

Sanusi stated, “It is appalling that the Lagos state government has not even mentioned that it has held the bodies of 103 victims in its custody since October 2020.

“All those detained because of their role in the protests must be immediately released. The Nigerian authorities must also ensure that victims and their families are provided with access to justice and effective remedies, including adequate compensation.”

It noted that it had been monitoring developments across Nigeria since the protests began on October 8, 2020.

“In October 2020, an on-the-ground investigation by Amnesty International confirmed that Nigerian security forces opened fire on thousands of peaceful protesters, who were peacefully calling for good governance and an end to police brutality, killing at least 12 protesters at Lekki toll gate and in Alausa,” director Sanusi said.

“Amnesty International was able to establish that pro-government supporters instigated violence at many of the demonstrations, providing cover for the police to use lethal force against peaceful protesters.

“On 16 November 2020, a Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up to investigate the Lekki toll gate killings submitted its report, which indicted the military and the police for killing unarmed protesters, who were sitting on the floor and waving Nigerian flags and singing.”

Wow 😮 😮

It's quite a remarkable coincidence that Saeed and Sa'ad, who are identical twins themselves, both married twins and had identical twins of their own on the same day. This situation is indeed extraordinary and could make for an interesting family story. Identical twinning is a rare occurrence, and having both twins marrying twins and having identical twins themselves on the same day adds an even more unusual twist to the tale. The chances of such an event happening are incredibly slim, but life sometimes brings us these extraordinary coincidences that capture our imagination and make for fascinating stories.

This remarkable news was shared by a Twitter user Yusha' S. Abdul and has generated a lot of reactions online. Twins have a unique cultural significance in Nigeria, and their birth is often considered a special event which explains why many women take clomid for twins. Nigeria has one of the highest twinning rates in the world, with the Yoruba ethnic group having the highest rate of twinning globally.

In Nigerian culture, twins are often seen as a blessing and are believed to possess special powers. They are referred to as "ibeji" among the Yoruba people, and they are thought to bring good fortune to their families. The birth of twins is celebrated with joy and festivities.

In some Nigerian communities, there are traditional rituals and customs associated with the birth of twins. For instance, there may be specific ceremonies to welcome and bless the twins, and certain taboos or rules to follow after their birth.

In the Yoruba culture, twins are believed to have a spiritual connection, and it is thought that if one twin dies, the surviving twin must carry a special mark (usually in the form of a tattoo or scarification) to distinguish them from the deceased twin's spirit. This mark is seen as a way to protect the surviving twin from any harm that the deceased twin's spirit may cause.

The Yoruba people also believe that twins have unique personalities and destinies, and they may have specific names and roles within the family or community.

Overall, twins hold a significant cultural and spiritual value in Nigeria, and their birth is celebrated in various ways across different ethnic groups and regions in the country.
