Police Arrest Two Suspected Drug Dealers in Anambra, Recover N6.2m Drugs, N598,400 Cash

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs valued at N6.2 million, alongside N598,400 cash.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence on the alleged activities of suspected illicit drug dealers operating in the area.

The suspects were identified by the police as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, popularly known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, a search of the hideout led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs.

The recovered substances were estimated by the police to be worth N6.2 million, while N598,400 in cash was also recovered from the location.

Police intensify crackdown

The operation is part of intensified security operations by the command following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on sustained intelligence-led operations and the dismantling of criminal hideouts across the country.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has consequently directed operatives to step up targeted operations against criminal elements and their suspected operational bases across the state.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the two suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs and that the location had been used as a meeting point by suspected criminal elements after carrying out their operations.

According to the statement, some of the suspected criminals fled the location after sighting the police during the raid.

Investigation ongoing

The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the source of the suspected illicit drugs and trace their alleged distribution network.

The police said the investigation would also seek to identify other persons allegedly connected to the operation and determine the circumstances surrounding the cash recovered from the hideout.

The Commissioner of Police vowed that the command would sustain intelligence-led raids, targeted operations and proactive policing to dismantle criminal hideouts and prevent criminals from establishing safe havens in the state.

CP Nnanna Oji Ama also called on residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to support the police by providing credible and timely information about suspicious persons, criminal activities and suspected criminal hideouts.

He assured residents that such intelligence would assist the command in preventing crime and strengthening security across the state.

Billionaire Jowizaza’s billionaire dad, Joseph Ezeokafor, Reportedly Kidn@pped In Anambra

Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, a Nigerian billionaire businessman and founder of Jezco Oil and Jezco Group, has reportedly been abd¥cted in Anambra State.

The businessman, who is also the father of Instagram celebrity Jowizaza, was reportedly kidn@pped last week while praying alone on a mountain in Awka, according to lawyer Chukwudi Iwuchukwu.

Iwuchukwu disclosed the incident in a Facebook post on Sunday, claiming Ezeokafor had gone to the mountain without his security details and police personnel who were usually attached to him.

He alleged that unidentified g¥nmen abd¥cted the businessman during the prayer session and took him to an unknown location.

The reported abd¥ction has reportedly caused confusion and mourning in Ekwulobia, Ezeokafor’s community. Iwuchukwu described him as the community’s richest man and said the incident had affected preparations for its annual New Yam Festival.

According to the lawyer, the festival was postponed despite reportedly never having been delayed in the past, as community members felt it would be inappropriate to celebrate while the family of their “illustrious son” was dealing with the reported abduction.

Iwuchukwu said Ezeokafor’s decision to pray alone without his usual security detail allegedly left him vulnerable to the attackers.

The report has not stated whether the businessman has been rescued or whether any arrest has been made in connection with the alleged abd¥ction.

FIRE INCIDENT AT EKWULOBIA.

The plaza is situated at Abogwume Ekwulobia, near Eke Ekwulobia Market. Regrettably, a fire broke out in the flat of a tenant residing upstairs, who is a person with a disability. Unfortunately, one of his rooms was completely consumed by the flames; however, due to the prompt intervention of others, the fire was extinguished before it could spread to the other rooms and the sitting room. We are grateful that no lives were lost in this incident.
