Keyamo Hails Fubara for Fixing Major Aviation Bottleneck in Rivers

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has commended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for addressing what he described as a long-standing aviation bottleneck in the state.

Keyamo gave the commendation on Friday during the flag-off of the 7km Ipo Town–Airport Bypass and the commissioning of the Ikwerre Road–Igwuruta–Airport Road Corridor, reconstructed by the Rivers State Government.

According to the minister, the road leading to the Port Harcourt International Airport had been in a deplorable condition for years, creating a poor first impression for visitors arriving through one of Nigeria’s oldest international airports. He noted that although the Federal Ministry of Aviation had planned to rehabilitate the road, the Rivers State Government intervened decisively.

Keyamo also apologised to members of the host airport community for perceived neglect by the Ministry of Aviation and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), assuring them that their concerns have been noted.

He added that the completed road project would open up the area for development, improve access to the airport, and stimulate increased commercial activities within the host community

Rivers Speaker Blames Governor Fubara for Brewing Fresh Crisis

The political tension in Rivers State has escalated after Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of sidelining lawmakers and setting the stage for a new crisis in the state.

Amaewhule, flanked by 10 lawmakers in Port Harcourt on Thursday, fired back at the governor’s recent comments about legislative cooperation, describing them as false and condemnable. He insists that meetings between the governor and the legislature have taken place, countering Fubara’s claim that arrangements were incomplete.

Key Points from Amaewhule’s Statement

The Speaker said the governor has sidelined the Assembly and ignored agreements previously reached with lawmakers.

He accused Fubara of spending public funds from the 2024 and 2025 budgets without Assembly approval, including alleged mismanagement of the N600bn left after emergency rule.

Amaewhule described recent claims that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, failed to convene meetings as untrue, saying several sessions were held in Abuja and Port Harcourt.

The Speaker warned that the governor’s leadership style is creating fault lines and could deepen political strife.

Amaewhule also criticised what he described as attacks on lawmakers through social media by individuals allegedly close to the governor, saying such actions undermine democratic culture and peaceful governance.

The Speaker maintained that the Assembly is committed to peace and support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, but stressed that state leadership must respect constitutional processes.

As tensions rise, Rivers State’s political environment remains fragile, with implications for governance and unity in the oil-rich region going into 2026.

GOV. FUBARA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PEACE, COMMISSIONS 10.7KM EGBEDA–OMERELU ROAD

Rivers State Governor, Sir, Siminalayi Fubara has again emphasized his unwavering commitment to sustaining peace, stressing that meaningful development is impossible in an atmosphere of discord.

Speaking on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during the commissioning of the 10.7-kilometre Egbeda–Omerelu Road constructed by his administration, the governor said Rivers State can only move forward when its people choose unity over division.

Welcomed with a red-carpet reception by an enthusiastic crowd of residents and supporters, Governor Fubara urged all lovers of the State to shun disunity and embrace togetherness.

He assured Rivers people that development projects would reach every part of the State but cautioned that progress cannot thrive where conflict persists.

Reflecting on the project, Governor Fubara recalled that the road was a promise he made during the inauguration of the first phase about a year ago.

“We made a promise that we were going to do this project, and today I am happy that the government has fulfilled that promise made to Emohua people, Egbeda community and Omerelu people,” he said.
He noted that the essence of governance is service to the people, adding that responding to their needs is a core responsibility of any administration.

“We decided to do this because you know where we are coming from, and if we don’t tell our story, many won’t know what we are doing. Even in the face of tribulations, we have remained focused on delivering the dividends of democracy. We will continue to serve our people with respect and honour,” he affirmed.

Governor Fubara also reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging to back all groups working towards securing the President’s victory in 2027.

Giving technical details of the project, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Dr. Austin Ezekiel-Hart, explained that the contract was awarded on October 27, 2024, to Messrs Johnson Roadworks Limited.

He said the road links communities in Emohua and Ikwerre LGAs and shortens travel time for motorists commuting from Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Omoku through Egbeda to Owerri in Imo State.

He added that the infrastructure features a 12-metre clearing width and an 8-metre asphalt surface, comprising a 50mm binder course and a 40mm wearing course. It is complemented by 24 kilometres of drainage channels with a 1.05m² cross-sectional capacity to ensure durability and efficient water flow.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, described the road as a crucial link for surrounding communities, significantly easing movement for residents.

He praised the governor for demonstrating continuity and consolidation and prayed for God’s strength to enable him to achieve even more for the people.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has debunked reports suggesting he is at odds with lawmakers from the state, describing such claims as fabricated narratives meant to create tension.

Speaking at the commissioning of the 28.4km extended and dualised Ahoada–Omoku Road on Tuesday, the governor clarified that a joint meeting with federal and state lawmakers had already been scheduled. He noted that the session was planned in collaboration with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, elder statesman Ferdinand Alabraba, and other senior stakeholders.

Fubara said insinuations that he avoided the lawmakers or turned down suggestions concerning them “have no truth in them.”

Following his defection from the PDP to the APC on Monday, the governor urged Rivers people to remain focused and continue supporting President Bola Tinubu, insisting that his decision was guided by the need to secure stability and sustained development for the state.

He reaffirmed his commitment to governance, stressing that the newly commissioned Ahoada–Omoku Road was a promise he made while touring the area during his campaign. He added that the project will significantly improve mobility, trade, and overall economic activity across the corridor.

Governor Fubara assured residents that more developmental projects are in the pipeline.

“We are fully on the ground—moving across every LGA to take the message of progress and support for President Tinubu to our people,” he said.
