COURT REJECTS MOVE TO STOP PDP CONVENTION

Political tension deepens as a Federal High Court in Abuja dismisses a suit filed by associates of Nyesom Wike seeking to stop the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its forthcoming National Convention.

TheCable reports that the court declined to grant an interim injunction, allowing preparations for the convention to continue.

Sources say the suit was part of an internal battle over the control and direction of the party, as loyalists of the FCT Minister and other PDP stakeholders continue to clash over leadership and strategy.

With the court’s decision, the stage now appears set for what could be one of the most decisive PDP conventions in recent years.

Ogoni Leaders Renew Call for ‘Ken Saro-Wiwa Day’ Recognition

Ogoni leaders and environmental activists have again urged the United Nations to officially declare October 10 as Ken Saro-Wiwa Day in honour of the late writer, environmentalist, and human rights icon.

The call was made after a ceremony marking Saro-Wiwa’s 84th posthumous birthday in his hometown, Bane, Rivers State.
Speaking at the event, the Ken Saro-Wiwa Foundation said it was time the world immortalized the man who gave his life fighting against environmental injustice in the Niger Delta.

Foundation Director-General Barry Wugale described Saro-Wiwa as “a man whose vision and sacrifice transcend borders,” adding that the Foundation is working to revive his unfulfilled dreams including a community microfinance project for women and an international school in Bane.

Activists also reaffirmed their commitment to keeping his legacy alive, insisting that “Saro-Wiwa’s struggle was for truth, peace, and self-determination.”

President Bola Tinubu recently granted a posthumous pardon to Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni leaders executed under the Abacha regime.

POLITICAL TENSION BREWS!
Report: Tinubu Considering Dropping Wike As Lagos APC Elders Urge Him To Work With Fubara

Fresh reports from SignalNG claim that President Bola Tinubu may be rethinking his alliance with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, following rising discontent among some Lagos APC elders.

According to the report, the elders allegedly advised the President to work more closely with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as calm, focused, and loyal.

The report also claims that Wike was absent from the recent National Council of State meeting … a move that’s fueling speculation about cracks within the political camp.

While the presidency has not reacted to these claims, political watchers say this could signal a major realignment ahead of 2027.

What do you think, is the alliance between Wike and Tinubu finally shaking?

‎The Presidency has reportedly stopped the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from holding his monthly press briefings, following growing concerns over his recent public conduct and the potential impact of his remarks on the fragile peace in Rivers State

‎The decision was reportedly taken after top government officials expressed unease that Wike’s media sessions had become increasingly confrontational and politically charged, often featuring threats and inflammatory statements directed at perceived opponents.

‎One presidency source said the move was also influenced by fears that Wike’s continued verbal attacks on political figures from Rivers State could reignite the tensions that have only recently begun to ease.

‎Another senior aide was quoted as saying that Wike’s repeated outbursts, particularly against Rivers elders who had attempted to mediate the dispute between him and Governor Fubara, had raised concerns within the president’s camp about the risk of renewed unrest in the state.

‎“The president’s team is worried that Wike’s outbursts, especially toward those elders, could plunge the state into another political crisis,” the aide said.

‎Despite the alleged directive, sources said the minister is resisting the decision and has reportedly reached out to the president’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, urging him to intervene and have the ban lifted.

‎The reported suspension of Wike’s briefings also comes amid lingering allegations of corruption and misconduct. Media reports have linked the minister to the secret purchase of three lakeside properties in Winter Springs, Florida, allegedly through large cash transactions. The properties were said to have later been transferred to his children via quitclaim deeds.

‎“The optics are perilous for our government. A minister who cannot be controlled is painful for the presidency,” one official was quoted as saying.

‎Officials, however, clarified that Wike will still be allowed to appear before vetted media platforms when necessary, but his regular monthly briefings have been suspended indefinitely.

New INEC Boss Under Pressure to Restore Confidence After 2023 Election Woes

With Joash Ojo Amupitan approved as Nigeria’s new INEC Chairman, the weight of expectation is heavy.

The Guardian Nigeria warns that he steps into a deeply skeptical electoral environment many Nigerians feel the 2023 elections were flawed and trust in INEC is low.

Now, Amupitan must not only steer the commission but rebuild confidence among citizens, opposition parties, civil society, and the media.

👇 What should be his first move to win public trust?

JUST IN: Tinubu Appoints New INEC Chairman 🇳🇬

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the completion of Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s 10 year tenure.

The National Council of State gave its unanimous approval during a meeting held today at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Amupitan, a 58-year-old Professor of Law from Kogi State, becomes the first person from the North Central state to occupy the top electoral position.

With 2027 fast approaching, many Nigerians are already watching closely to see what direction he’ll take INEC under the Tinubu administration.

What are your expectations from the new INEC boss?
Will he deliver credible elections or face the same old challenges?

Presidency Rejects World Bank’s Poverty Report 🇳🇬

The Presidency has dismissed the World Bank’s latest report claiming 139 million Nigerians live in poverty calling it “unrealistic and based on outdated data.”

Presidential aide Sunday Dare said the global body used old figures and failed to consider Nigeria’s informal economy and subsistence livelihoods.

He insisted that government reforms and social programs are already “lifting millions out of hardship.”

But critics and economists disagree arguing that the rising cost of living, weak naira, and food inflation say otherwise.

What do you think?
Is the World Bank right or is the Presidency simply trying to save face?
