Oduduwa

Oduduwa is a legendary figure in Yoruba mythology, revered as the founder of the Yoruba kingdom and the progenitor of the Yoruba people. He is often depicted as a powerful king and ancestor.

Story of Oduduwa
According to Yoruba tradition, Oduduwa was sent by the supreme god, Olodumare, to create the earth and establish the Yoruba people. He descended from heaven on a chain, bringing with him a handful of sand, a rooster, and other sacred objects.

Oduduwa threw the sand onto the primordial waters, creating dry land. The rooster then scratched the earth, spreading the sand and creating the contours of the land.

Oduduwa established Ife as the sacred city of the Yoruba people and became the first king. He had many children, and his descendants went on to found various Yoruba kingdoms.
