The family of Anambra-born industrialist and billionaire businessman, Sir Joseph Ezeokafor has come out to throw more light on the abduction of their patriarch and father, who is currently spending his 7th night in the hands of the kidnappers who kidnapped him last week, Tuesday.

1) He was kidnapped from a remote Catholic prayer ground, located at Ifite, Awka, Anambra State, by dare armed gunmen who stormed the prayer ground at exactly 2:00 am Tuesday last week.

2) He was the financier who financed the construction of the prayer house and the access roads that lead to the prayer ground as part of his contribution to the Catholic church that he loves so much.

3) Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, even though he is a wealthy man in dollars and naira, is a humble, devout and pious man who loves God so much, and so every month, he visits the Catholic prayer ground without his security details attached to him because he believes so much in his heart that the holy prayer ground should not be littered with security details.

4) Last Tuesday was not his first time visiting the prayer ground; he visits every month, quietly and without fanfare, to communicate with his God, the God that changed his life as an orphan, because that is the only way he understands that it should be done.

5) Contrary to the rumours spreading out there, he has not been released, and the kidnappers have not even established contact with the family who are sick and worried about the health of their patriarch, who is without his high blood pressure medication.

6) Sir Joseph Ezeokafor is the founder and the CEO of Jezco Oil, an integrated energy business that is involved in the following businesses:

NEW: Enugu begins construction of 3 new 33KV feeders to end prolonged power outages in 4 LGAs

The Enugu State Government has commenced the construction of three new 33KV electricity feeders designed to end prolonged power outages and provide improved, stable and reliable electricity supply to communities in four Local Government Areas of the state.

The project, which is being developed from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Station, Ugwuaji, will improve electricity supply to Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Awgu, and Aninri Local Government Areas.

The flag-off of the project was preceded by a stakeholders meeting on electricity held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, during the weekend.

The intervention is targeted at addressing the longstanding challenges associated with the Amechi 33KV feeder, which currently serves as the major source of electricity supply to Nkanu East and Nkanu West, as well as Enugu South, Awgu and Aninri Local Government Areas in Enugu State.

The feeder, which stretches for more than 600 kilometres into three Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State, is reportedly the longest 33KV feeder in the South-East, making it difficult to detect and rectify faults and resulting in prolonged electricity outages across the communities it serves.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Enugu State Electrification Agency (ESEA), Engr. Christopher Ezeoha, said the state government had decided to fundamentally restructure the network rather than simply restore the existing feeder.

Ezeoha explained that the government was constructing two new 33KV feeders from the TCN Station at Ugwuaji and extending an existing short 33KV feeder from the same station, bringing the number of new and extended feeders to three.

He said the new feeders would be dedicated to improving electricity supply to Nkanu East and Nkanu West, while the existing Amechi feeder would be reconfigured to serve Awgu and Aninri.

Ezeoha said the government would further construct four new injection substations in Nkanu East and Nkanu West to transform electricity from 33KV to 11KV, thereby strengthening the distribution network and improving the reliability of power supply in the areas.

“Some communities, including Nkerifi, Nara and Mburubu, have not had electricity for more than 20 years,” he said, noting that the state government had directed the agency to restore electricity to such communities.

He, however, said restoring the existing feeder alone would not provide a lasting solution because of its excessive length and the number of communities and Local Government Areas dependent on it.

Ezeoha said the new arrangement would substantially reduce the length of individual feeders, making fault detection and repairs faster and improving the quality and duration of electricity supplied to the affected communities.

“By the time we finish doing this work, we hope to give them more than 20 hours average daily power supply. That is what the government says we should do,” he said.

He said the electricity intervention was part of a larger plan by the administration of Governor Peter Mbah to establish a modern and commercially viable electricity market in the state.

Ezeoha disclosed that the power improvement investments would initially be managed by a special-purpose vehicle, Enugu Electrification Agency Ltd., which would distribute and market electricity in Nkanu East and Nkanu West, with the long-term objective of taking over electricity distribution services across Enugu State.

He said the agency had commenced pre-feasibility studies and the preparation of a 10-year business plan as part of the process of securing the necessary regulatory approvals and licences for bulk electricity trading and participation in the state electricity market.

The ESEA boss further disclosed that the state government was preparing its electricity distribution infrastructure to evacuate power from a proposed 630-megawatt generation facility being developed in the state.

He said the long-term objective of the administration was to provide reliable electricity supply 24 hours a day, seven days a week, stressing that achieving the target would require not only increased generation but also a robust distribution network capable of evacuating and delivering available power efficiently.

Ezeoha said the government also planned to deploy smart pre-paid meters and automation technology to improve accountability, enhance revenue collection and enable the quick detection and resolution of faults.

He explained that a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system would allow the agency to identify the location of faults almost immediately, enabling technical personnel to respond directly to affected points instead of searching along hundreds of kilometres of transmission lines.

He appealed to communities to protect electricity infrastructure against vandalism, stressing that the sustainability of the government’s investment depended on collective ownership and protection of the facilities.

He said the intervention would not be limited to Nkanu East and Nkanu West, as similar electricity infrastructure investments would be extended to other parts of the state, including Nsukka and Uzo-Uwani, as part of the administration’s broader plan to transform electricity supply across Enugu.

The State Commissioner for Energy, Mr Enyinna Ogbonna, said electricity was one of the major priorities of the administration of Governor Mbah, describing reliable power supply as critical to driving industrialisation, job creation and economic growth.

Ogbonna said the government’s electricity investments were integral to its broader economic development agenda, including the target of growing Enugu’s Gross Domestic Product from about $4.4 billion to $30 billion.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Enugu Region, Dr Tom Inugonum, commended the state government for its efforts to improve electricity supply.

Inugonum said the TCN Enugu Region controlled transmission infrastructure covering between six and eight states, adding that improved cooperation with the Enugu State Government would help address the state’s power challenges.

He said Enugu received electricity from three major sources and had several transmission lines serving different parts of the state, but noted that some transmission and substation projects in the region remained incomplete, limiting the capacity of the power system.

He also expressed concern over the vandalism of transmission infrastructure, stressing the need for communities to protect substations, transmission lines and other critical facilities.

In his remarks, the President-General of Isi-Amagunze, Mr Okey Nwatu, called for greater community involvement in protecting electricity infrastructure.

Nwatu said transformers, cables, switches and other electrical facilities were critical infrastructure that communities must protect if they wanted to enjoy sustained electricity supply.

Soludo Inspects Onitsha Main Market Reconstruction, Warns Against Street Trading Upon Completion

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has embarked on an inspection tour of the Onitsha Main Market to assess the ongoing remodeling and infrastructural upgrade projects.

During the visit, the Governor interacted directly with the traders to evaluate the pace and quality of the construction work.

The traders gave a collective affirmative response, confirming that the renovation activities are progressing steadily and meeting expectations as the December 2026 shopping season approaches.

The comprehensive overhaul aims to modernize the commercial hub, improve sanitation, enhance security, and restore structural order to the West African trading center.

However, as part of the broader strategic vision for the market, Governor Soludo made it clear that the state government will enforce strict regulations once the project is completed.

According to the Governor, specifically, the administration intends to clear out street traders and unauthorized street trading activities from the corridors and surrounding areas of the newly upgraded facility to ensure a seamless flow of traffic and a globally competitive standard of commerce.

SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT: ON THE CHINUA ACHEBE STATUE AT UGWU-NWASIKE, OGIDI

There has been a spreading misconception that the statue of our literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe, at Ugwu-Nwasike Roundabout was commissioned and built by the Anambra State Government.

For the avoidance of doubt: the statue was conceived, funded, and executed by the Ogidi Town Union — Achebe’s community. Governor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, was graciously invited to unveil the monument in honour of Achebe’s towering legacy and its significance to Ndi Anambra and the world.

We must not trivialize this thoughtful gesture by Ogidi people for social media traffic. The decision of Achebe’s own community to immortalize their illustrious son is profound and deserves commendation, not needless debate about the sculptor’s interpretation.

Anyone who visits the monument will see how deeply Achebe is venerated. Beyond the bust, the base of the statue carries carefully engraved excerpts of his literary masterpieces — “Things Fall Apart, Arrow of God, No Longer at Ease” etc — ensuring that even if one misses the face, no one will miss the ideas that made him immortal.

This back and forth about whether a statue is “picture-perfect” is a huge distraction from the weight of this symbolic effort. Symbols are about what they represent. We do not measure our reverence for images of Christ, Mother Mary, or the Saints by artistic perfection, but by what they stand for. The same reverence should apply here.

It is also important to recall that Governor Soludo had earlier, in 2023, immortalized Professor Achebe by renaming the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport after him. Long before that, Achebe’s statue also stands proudly at the entrance of the Light House, Awka, as one of the five distinguished historical figures of Anambra State.

The message is clear: If you respect Achebe, you must respect every sincere monument raised in his honour.

We congratulate the Ogidi Town Union, the Achebe family, and all stakeholders who made this possible.

Blogger, Ejike Ofoegbu Sued For Fabricated Stories/Defamatory Content, Others, Against Governor Soludo and Family

Bail has been refused for a self-styled online publisher/blogger, Ejike Ofoegbu, associated with Igbo Times Magazine and INews, who was today, July, 13, 2026, arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The defendant is accused of creating and publishing fabricated stories, defamatory content, and "satanic works of fiction" presented as journalism for the purpose of generating online traffic and financial gain.

The Magistrate, C.O Ezekwere ordered the compilation and transmission of the original copy of the police case to the Attorney General and Ministey of Justice, as well as records of the hearing in the Magistrate court, however advising him to proceed to the High Court, Awka to seek Bail, as the Magistrate Court lacks the jurisdiction to try the matter.

This followed entrances by A.A. Nwanri who appeared for the plantiff, as well as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, O.K Nkuma and Inspector Tochukwu Echemagu of D-4 Section, State CID, Awka, for a motion exparte for the defendant's remand in Awka Correctional Center.

The primary target mentioned in his write-ups is the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his family, specifically his son, Ozonna.

The defendant alegedly published fabricated claims, including, the Governor "disowning" his son, the son calling his father a "drunkard who beat my mom," a "drinking competition" between the Governor and a minister.

The relevant sections of the law relied upon by the plaintiff include Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act 2015 (specifically Section 24 1B regarding cyberstalking and Section 38 regarding identity theft), Criminal Code Act, Section 373 and 375 (regarding defamatory matter), 2024 Amendment to the Cybercrime Act.

27th of July, 2026 was set aside as hearing date for compliance.

Recall that the defendant had issued a "Public Apology and Full Retraction," inspite of which he is facing legal action under Nigerian cyber laws and the Criminal Code for acts including criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and identity theft/impersonation.
