💔 When the Vows Faded

The church bells had rung so loudly that day, echoing through the streets as if heaven itself was rejoicing. Everyone had smiled — family, friends, even strangers who peeked through the church gates. Chika and Emeka stood hand in hand, eyes locked, hearts full.

“I will love you, through thick and thin,” Emeka had vowed.
“I will stand by you, no matter what life brings,” Chika had promised.

And everyone clapped when they sealed it with a kiss.

But love, they would learn, is not built on promises alone.

The first few years were beautiful. They woke up laughing, cooked together, whispered dreams in the dark. Emeka worked long hours, saving for the future. Chika managed the home, cared for their daughter, Ada. Life was simple, full of quiet joy.

Then came the cracks — small at first.
Missed calls. Unspoken words. Silent dinners.

Emeka began staying out late, always with one excuse or another. “Work is demanding,” he would say, loosening his tie. Chika would nod, though her heart whispered otherwise.

She started noticing perfume on his shirts — not hers.

When she asked, he smiled, “You’re imagining things.”
But her heart wasn’t blind.
