The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that there is a cabal in the Bola Tinubu-led government.

Wike dismissed this claim while speaking at the 2025 OAU Distinguished Personality Lecture in Ile-Ife, the Osun State capital, on Thursday, June 5th.

“He has shown that he has the courage. Under Tinubu, there is nothing like cabal. This is a president that is in charge” he said

The minister stated that all former Nigerian presidents, including Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, were not bold enough to remove the petrol subsidy and unify the foreign exchange rates.Food tours

Wike said so many people would still be benefiting from fuel subsidy fr*ud had Tinubu not removed it.

He said, though Nigeria has underperformed in the last six decades since independence, and all imaginable fault lines are cracking, the nation can still rise and blaze in glory if the right governance frameworks are put in place.

The minister stressed the rebuilding of trust and the strengthening of the cord of unity in diversity for Nigeria to forge forward.

He said the desired Nigeria won’t fall from heaven but will require the vision, sacrifice, hard work and purpose of all citizens. “Let us leave for the next generation to resolve and not regret,” he said, urging all Nigerians to be committed to the nation’s building.

The Netherlands will return 119 lo*ted Benin bronzes to Nigeria this month, marking one of the most significant repatriations of cultural artefacts to the country.

The Dutch embassy in Nigeria confirmed on Thursday, June 5th, that the artefacts will arrive during the week of June 16th. A formal handover ceremony is scheduled for June 21st at the National Museum in Lagos.

Following the ceremony, the bronzes will be transferred to the National Museum in Benin City, Edo State—their place of origin. This return is believed to be the single largest consignment of Benin bronzes handed back to Nigeria by any country to date.

The bronzes were among thousands of sacred and ceremonial objects looted by British forces during the 1897 punitive expedition against the Benin Kingdom. Many of the items ended up in European and North American museums and private collections.

In a previous statement made in February, the Dutch embassy acknowledged that the artefacts should never have been taken to the Netherlands. Bengt van Loosdrech, the ambassador-designate to Nigeria, noted that the country had been demanding the return of the bronzes for over five decades.

The return of the bronzes is part of a broader global reckoning with colonial-era lo*ting, as nations and institutions face growing calls to return st*len cultural heritage to their rightful owners.
