SEE WHY HE PROPOSED TO ME AFTER FOUR YEAR-PART 2
Before receiving my NYSC call-up letter, I had a heartfelt conversation with my mother. I assured her that no matter where I was assigned for service, I would wholeheartedly embrace it, believing that I had fervently prayed and that I would be placed in the right location to fulfill my purpose.
In 2018, I initiated a foundation named D’explorer Youth Foundation, dedicated to advancing human well-being. My lifelong passion has always been to make a positive impact on the world, to save souls through acts of kindness and through spreading the word of God. I was determined not to let my commitment to NYSC service deter me from this calling. Thus, I informed my mother that wherever I would be sent for service was a divine assignment, and I was obligated to carry out my mission there. Deep down, as a human, I secretly hoped to be posted to Lagos or Abuja, but destiny had different plans, and I was assigned to Niger State. 🤩
On the day of our assignment to Jankara, we couldn't return to the distant PPA location in the evening and had to spend the night in Minna. The next morning, after securing a place to stay for the night, we were sent back to our PPA community, which happened to be a small Muslim community.
We were about seven corpers, four girls, and three boys. To summarize, our journey began, and we soon discovered that this remote community lacked basic amenities. There was just one modest mud house that served as a church, and we had to rely on river water as there was no clean water source. Moreover, there were no provisions for buying food supplies, so we had to purchase food and enough sachet water to last for a month from Lapai market and then travel back to Jankara.
I arrived in Jankara with the firm resolve to serve both God and my country. However, within a short span of eight months, all the corpers posted there began leaving, and it came to a point where only the compassionate brother and I remained. Meanwhile, he had been asked by the local government state coordinator to serve as the Community Liaison Officer (CLO), and he was considering this opportunity while others were departing. I, on the other hand, was determined not to leave because I had a mission to fulfill.
During these challenging times, he made a promise to stand by my side, echoing the words of Ruth in the Bible: "Don't worry, I will be here with you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your God will be my God." He stayed true to his promise, and together, we reached out to the children in Jankara.
Every Wednesday, we gathered them and imparted wisdom. It was during this time that the idea for the Valentine Outreach was born. During Valentine's Day, we distributed neatly ironed, used clothes to every child in the community, regardless of their faith. From that day onward, our Valentine Outreach has continued without interruption.
After the NYSC Service, we went our separate ways and forgot ourselves.
