Kumuyi Cancels Deeper Life’s Strict Marriage Rules, Says They Were Not Biblical

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has announced changes to the church’s long-standing marriage rules, clarifying that they were never biblical commands but only administrative guidelines.

Speaking at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference on Sunday, Kumuyi said the ban which stopped ladies from visiting men they intended to marry had been cancelled.

He explained that couples preparing for marriage can now visit each other during courtship, provided an elder is present.

Kumuyi also revealed that the six-month compulsory courtship period introduced by the church is no longer mandatory. He stressed that it was only a human arrangement and not a command from the Bible.

“We just felt couples should have time to know one another. We said one month was too short, two months too short, so why not six months? But it is not from the Bible,” he said.

The cleric urged Christians to understand the difference between God’s commandments and church traditions, warning against treating man-made rules as divine laws.

“As a Christian, you need to be mature enough to know what comes from God and what comes from church principles. Six months is okay, but it’s not fixed. If it becomes three months, it does not mean we are changing the Bible, because six months is not in the Bible,” he added.

He further explained that the church’s marriage committees were created to give guidance, not to replace biblical authority.

“There is no marriage committee in the New Testament. We created it to help, not because there is a chapter or verse that commands it. It is simply church administration,” he said.

Kumuyi also cautioned leaders not to overstep their limits, saying marriage committees must not go beyond what the scriptures allow.

The development comes as Kumuyi continues to review several church practices, many of which, he said, were introduced for administrative purposes and not rooted in the Bible.

GOD DOES NOT HATE DIVORCE!

If the divorce delivers you from unrepentant physical abuse, GOD DOES NOT HATE DIVORCE.

If the divorce delivers you from toxic verbal and mental abuses.

If the divorce delivers you from STDs and the many health problems from infidelity!

God does note hate divorce that delivers you from satanic destruction via your partner!

You must understand this!

You can’t quote ‘God hates divorce’ in isolation.

There is a reason God hates divorce!

God didn’t create marriage as an earthly prison for a lifetime of toxicity, abuse and destruction!

“Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.”
Malachi 2:14, 16 KJV

Read the text again!

God hates divorce because the men in that context used divorce as a tool of infidelity.

Remember the Pharisees asked Jesus if they could divorce their wives for every reason?

The reality is, they married women, used them and when they wanted other women, they wrote them letters of divorcement for any reason and then went on to marry other women.

Thus, they used divorce as a tool of legalized infidelity!!

God hates divorce that promotes infidelity and destroys children!

You can’t have a marriage where your husband s*xually abuses your kids and you remain there because God hates divorce!

Be wise!!

So the next time you quote ‘God hates divorce’, you must add the context.

Jesus said you can divorce on grounds of infidelity, meaning it is not divorce itself that God hates, but a kind of divorce, for if God hates divorce outright, why will He accept divorce on grounds of infidelity, if He really hated divorce without context, no context will justify divorce but that is not the case!

This post is not enough to explain everything on divorce.

The Assemblies of God (AG), Ghana, has instructed all its ministers of the Gospel to refrain from using honorary academic titles such as “Dr” in accordance with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) regulations, which do not recognise such titles as equivalents to earned academic qualifications.Ghanaian tourism packages

In a circular dated July 11, signed by the General Secretary of the church, Rev. Ernest Birikorang (Ph.D.), pastors were reminded of the importance of maintaining the integrity of the ministry to avoid conflicts with the regulator.

The directive clarified that pastors conferred with honorary doctorate degrees, whether from accredited or non-accredited institutions, must desist from appending the title “Dr” to their names.

The circular also urged ministers who had legitimately pursued academic programmes leading to degrees such as bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. to be prepared to submit their certificates to the GTEC for verification if they wanted those qualifications to be officially recognised by the church.

It warned that any pastor who flouted the directive or was in conflict with the GTEC would face suspension.

Background
The Assemblies of God directive followed a series of stern warnings issued by the GTEC regarding the misuse of academic titles in the country.Online TV streaming servicesOnline TV streaming services

In April this year, the commission expressed concern over what it described as a growing trend of individuals parading as “Dr” or “Prof.” based on honorary awards.

The GTEC said while honorary degrees were legitimate, they were purely symbolic and did not confer academic or professional status on recipients.

According to the commission, the use of such titles misled the public and undermined the integrity of the country’s higher education system.

It stressed that only those who had earned their qualifications through academic study and research were entitled to use them.

The commission cited the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), which empowers it to regulate the use of academic nomenclature, including “Doctor” and “Professor.”

Under the law, offenders face sanctions, including fines of up to 250 penalty units, imprisonment of up to one year or both.

To enforce compliance, the GTEC launched public education campaigns and warned that it may publish names of offenders and take legal action against persistent violators.

Example of leadership
In the Assemblies of God circular, Rev. Birikorang urged pastors to follow the example of the church’s General Superintendent, Rev. Stephen Wengam, who announced last year that, although an honorary doctorate had been conferred on him, he had voluntarily ceased using the title “Dr” and encouraged other ministers to do the same.

Rev. Birikorang expressed confidence that church ministers would adhere to the directive, noting that doing so would uphold the ministry's credibility and show respect for Ghana’s education regulatory framework.Ghanaian tourism packages

He said that, by aligning with the directives, the Assemblies of God becomes one of the first major Christian denominations in the country to formally instruct its ministers to refrain from using honorary titles.

PRESS RELEASE BY THE COMMONWEALTH OF ZION ASSEMBLY

RE: PRESS RELEASE BY THE CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH (CAC News) ON REV BIODUN FATOYINBO

My attention has been drawn to a press release on statements credited to my person relating to the family of the Late and Highly Revered Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, a most distinguished father of faith in Nigeria and indeed all over the world.

I appreciate the fact that a church I personally love, admire and respect would be so kind and magnanimous enough to address the issues which have been misconstrued in an exemplary Christian manner. I am indeed grateful.

The exploits of Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, which in the video I stated explicitly are too numerous to count remains the hall mark of most Christian organizations in Nigeria and beyond till this very moment.

Indeed many of the churches in this part of the world take their DNA either directly or indirectly from the ministry and grace over the life of Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola of which I cannot but also state categorically that I am a beneficiary.

I am therefore honored, humbled and grateful for every word, admonition and correction in the statement issued this morning by CAC. I am a child who grew up in the church and cannot erase that part of my formative years.

Let me state however that at no time in the sermon did I refer to the children of the late Apostle and Father of faith in bad light. I would never do that. The raw copy of the message is online and this can be verified.

Our church is known worldwide as a place of Honor and I would never in any way of manner take lightly the grace over Apostle Babalola, his children or his ministry for granted or speak lightly of same.

I am also aware that the children of the late Veteran of faith, who are all serving God and keeping up the legacy of our late father of faith are not only shining examples of generational impact, but good and present day examples for children of visionaries to follow.

I remain proud of their achievements and honor them in no small measure.

Finally, I apologize if any other statement made by me has caused any form of distress, hurt or discontentment to the CAC, the family of the late Apostle Babalola or his associates.

I will never disrespect or speak of them in that manner either publicly or privately.

I pray that this puts to rest the entire episode and we pray that the CAC and the legacy of our father Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, continues to grow in leaps and bounds.

Your Son,

‘Biodun Fatoyinbo
