The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reported that its President, Joe Ajaero, is in critical condition and may need to be flown abroad for medical examination after he was allegedly beaten, brutalized, and battered by agents of the state, including policemen in Owerri, the Imo State capital. The attack occurred during a scheduled protest over pending labor issues, including unpaid salaries, allowances, pensions, gratuities, and non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage Act. Ajaero and other labor leaders were physically assaulted, and their personal belongings were confiscated. The NLC and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) leaders are set to meet to decide on an appropriate response to the attack. Former presidential candidate Peter Obi condemned the incident, describing it as lawlessness, impunity, criminality, and rascality, reflecting the deteriorating state of affairs in the country.

An Abuja High Court has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unconditionally release former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele. Emefiele, who was re-arrested by the EFCC after being released by the Department for State Service (DSS) following court orders, was ordered to be released from detention immediately or produced in court on a specified date for a bail hearing. The court set the hearing for the substantive motion on November 6, 2023.

The Imo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has raised concerns over an alleged plan by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold elections in polling units with zero voter registration. The LP chairman, Callistus Ihejiagwa, claimed that the affected areas are considered catchment points for the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and alleged that there is a collaboration between APC and INEC to conduct elections in those units, which he described as a breach of the Electoral Act and Electoral Guidelines. The organisers of the 'Warri Again Concert' have filed a N2.3 billion lawsuit against Nigerian American singer Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, over an alleged breach of contract. The claimant, Brownhill Investments Company Limited, is seeking N2 billion as general damages, N150 million as legal and professional fees, and N30 million as the cost of filing the suit. The claimant alleges that Davido agreed to perform at the 19th edition of the 'Warri Again' event but did not show up, despite being paid a performance fee of N70 million. The case is ongoing at the High Court of Delta State in Effurun.

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has shut down 34 corporate organizations for failing to remit Personal Income Taxes of their employees and for non-remittance of Consumption Taxes by operators in the hospitality sector. Some of the affected companies include NTS Nigeria Ltd., Med-In Hospital & Pharma Services Ltd., Danvic Petroleum Int’l Ltd., and Avaya Nigeria Ltd. In addition, 23 hotels, restaurants, and event facilities were closed for failure to deduct and remit Consumption taxes. The tax liabilities of these companies and hotels amount to more than N356.12 million. The Director of Legal Services of LIRS warned that the enforcement exercise will continue and will be applied to all erring companies, hotels, restaurants, and individuals in the state if they do not regularize their tax positions.

An Oyo High Court in Oyo town has adjourned the case brought by five out of six Oyo Mesi against Governor Seyi Makinde, the Attorney-General, and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters over the selection of the new Alaafin of Oyo. The claimants are seeking a stay of the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit. The defendants requested more time to file a counter affidavit, and the judge insisted that there was no urgency, allowing the parties to agree on a hearing date. The stool of Alaafin became vacant after the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

Nigeria's ambassadors are facing challenges returning to the country due to financial constraints. Although the deadline for recalled ambassadors to return to Nigeria has passed, many are still stranded abroad because funds have not been provided for their return. The ambassadors have expressed concerns about the lack of financial support, including the delay in releasing their Authority to Incur Expenditures (AIEs) for their passages. They have also warned that Nigeria could face international embarrassment if the recall and replacement of ambassadors are not handled properly, as the process typically takes six to eight months. The ambassadors have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to extend the recall deadline to allow their children to complete their exams and avoid disrupting their education. The Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusufu Tuggar, has stated that the October 31 deadline for the ambassadors' return is sacrosanct and has placed an embargo on foreign missions' accounts to prevent frivolous spending. The ambassadors are awaiting the release of funds, with each envoy entitled to at least $20,000 for their return. The delay in payment and lack of financial support have left the ambassadors stranded and concerned about their situation abroad.
