Sam Loco Efe, one of Nigeria’s most loved actors and comedians, died on August 7, 2011, at the age of 66. He passed away in Owerri, Imo State, while working on a new movie. He was found in his hotel room with his inhaler beside him, and it was said he dîed from asthma.
Sam Loco was born in Enugu in 1945. Life was not easy for him after his father dîed. To survive, he sold ci******es, bread, and plantain while going to school. Many people later believed smóking might have affected his health, though the official cause of déath was asthma.
He loved acting from a young age and joined drama groups and stage plays before moving into movies. In the 1990s and 2000s, he became very popular for his funny roles in films like Osuofia in London, Ukwa, Tom and Jerry, My Love, and A Fóol at 40.
Apart from acting, he also directed and trained younger actors. His déath was a big loss to Nollywood, but he is still remembered as one of the pioneers of comedy who brought laughter to many homes.
