Governor Adeleke to Police: Unseal Amotekun to Contain Banditry, Kidnapping

OSOGBO - 06/02/2026- Osunstate.gov.ng

Governor Ademola Adeleke has warned against spillover of banditry and kidnapping from Kwara state into Osun, urging the police to immediately lift ban on Amotekun operations to combat the emerging threats.

Responding to another case of kidnapping at Ora Igbomina area, the Governor said the state is handicapped in its security response as the Amotekun service has remained sealed by the police with her top officers in detention without trial for several months.

The governor posited that the Amotekun service had developed the containment expertise especially in the rural border areas, submitting that the police's shutting down of the service operations has created a big gap being exploited by bandits and criminals.

Governor Adeleke who called on the Inspector General of Police to charge those detained to court and unseal the service stated that further delay may endanger the rural population and open the state to further criminal infiltration.

“I am taking this matter to the public domain in view of another kidnapping at Ora Igbomina. Closing down Amotekun exposes Osun people to serious risks. I call on the Inspector General of Police to unseal Amotekun and allow its operatives to secure my people across the grassroots.

“Those officers in detention should be charged to court after several months of incarceration. Any further delay in the unsealing of Amotekun will further jeopardise the safety and security of our people”, the Governor was quoted as saying after a closed door security meeting.

OSUN APC DEFENDS PAYMENT OF TRADITIONAL RULERS' ACCUMULATED SALARIES, SLAMS ADELEKE, EGBEDUN

6th February 2026

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended the payment of accumulated salaries to traditional rulers in the state, describing it as a legitimate action in line with the party's policy not to play politics with the welfare of traditional rulers.

According to the APC, the payment was made possible by the release of withheld federal allocations to local councils, which had been suspended since February 2025 due to a leadership tussle between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) factions.

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, led by Chairman Samuel Abiodun Idowu, stated that the payment of accumulated salaries to traditional rulers was in line with the Supreme Court's judgment granting financial autonomy to local governments.

Idowu also accused Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration of using the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and other affiliated bodies to obstruct the release of federal allocations meant for local governments, which would have eased financial pressures on traditional rulers, teachers, and health workers. ¹ ²

The APC's defense of the payment comes after Speaker Adewale Egbedun faulted the reinstated APC chairmen for prioritizing the payment of accumulated salaries to traditional rulers, citing numerous litigations set in motion by Governor Adeleke as the reason for the delay.

In response, Idowu said the reinstated APC chairmen have no apology for anyone in the state for giving traditional rulers and chiefs their dues, citing the 11th July 2024 Supreme Court judgment and the 10th February 2025 Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated the APC chairmen and councillors. ³

EKITI INDIGENES IN OSUN BACK APC GUBER CANDIDATE, OYEBAMIJI

February 6, 2026

A group of Ekiti indigenes residing in Osun State, under the umbrella of "The Itesiwaju Group," has thrown their weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

The endorsement was made on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, during a solidarity visit by the group's leadership to the Osogbo residence of the Chairman of AMBO Movement, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye.

Led by the group's Coordinator, Alonge Clement, the Ekiti indigenes pledged to aggressively mobilize support at the grassroots for Oyebamiji's electoral victory in the August 8, 2026, governorship election.

According to Clement, "We are impressed by the quality of good governance and representation in the APC, President Bola Tinubu's phenomenal leadership, and the sterling antecedent of the Osun APC governorship candidate. These factors have propelled us to throw our weight behind Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji."

Clement further explained that Ekiti indigenes in Osun State have decided to be involved in the electoral process because they seek a better economic climate to thrive in the state, which is their current means of livelihood.

In his response on behalf of the governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Owoeye expressed gratitude to the group for the endorsement. He assured all non-indigenes in Osun State that Oyebamiji, when elected, would protect their interests, particularly their businesses and safety.

Owoeye highlighted Oyebamiji's impressive credentials and track record of selfless service, expressing confidence that he would be an excellent governor for Osun State. "Oyebamiji is ready, capable, and willing to ensure even development of the state and a conducive economic climate for all and sundry. Both indigenes and visitors alike will benefit tremendously from his administration."

While appreciating the peaceful attitude, efforts, and contributions of Ekiti community and other non-indigenes to the growth of Osun State, Owoeye urged the electorate to turn out en masse and vote for the APC governorship candidate on August 8, saying it is the wisest and most beneficial decision to make.

The Chairman of AMBO Movement also emphasized the need for eligible persons to take advantage of the second phase of voter's registration exercise to participate in the forthcoming poll.

High Court Sentence Three To D£ath Over Murd£r In Osun

6th February 2026

An Osun State High Court sitting in Iwo on Thursday sentenced three men to d3ath by hanging over the murder of a 53-year-old woman, Asiata Yekeen, for money ritual in Ile-Ogbo community.

The convicts—Muideen Tunji, Yusuf Muslim and Rabiu Fatai, were found guilty of conspiracy, m8rder and unlawful possession of human parts.

Yekeen was reported missing after efforts to reach her failed, prompting Suleiman Akorede and Yekini Suleiman to alert the police and the Osun Amotekun Corps in Ile-Ogbo.

The three men were subsequently arrested and arraigned on three counts bordering on conspiracy, m3rder and unlawful possession of human parts, offences contrary to Sections 324, 319(a) and 329A(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 2, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

They were first arraigned before Justice Fatimah Sodamade on January 31, 2023, in Suit No. HIW/IC/2023, and pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecution counsel from the Ministry of Justice, Dele Akintayo, told the court that Tunji owed the deceased some money and lured her to his residence in Ile-Ogbo under the pretext of refunding the debt.

Akintayo said when Yekeen arrived at Tunji’s house, she met Muslim and Fatai, adding that the defendants forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

He further told the court that the defendants later strangled Yekeen to death, dismembered her body, removed some vital parts and buried her remains in a shallow grave near Tunji’s residence.

According to the prosecution, residents who saw the deceased entering Tunji’s house raised an alarm when news of her disappearance spread within the community.

Akintayo also told the court that Tunji fled when he suspected that security operatives were closing in on the suspects, adding that he hid at Muslim’s residence, while Fatai kept some parts of the deceased’s body.

The prosecution called six witnesses, tendered 13 exhibits and presented the defendants’ confessional statements, urging the court to apply the full weight of the law against them

However, counsel for the defendants —J.D. Olaniyan, Adesina Olaniyan and Bayo Alade argued in their respective submissions that the evidence against their clients was largely hearsay and insufficient to secure a conviction.

Delivering judgment, Justice Sodamade held that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and found the defendants guilty on all three counts.

She sentenced the convicts to four years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit murder, five years’ imprisonment for unlawful possession of human parts, and death by hanging for murder.

*PRESS STATEMENT. (26TH JANUARY, 2026)*

*Your Attack On AMBO's Imaginary Economic Blue Print Borne Out Of Envy, Fear Of Your Imminent Loss Of Guber Election - Osun APC Knocks Adeleke*

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the state Governor Ademola Adeleke criticism of the imaginary economic blue print of the governorship candidate of the APC in the forthcoming 8th August, 2026 election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, as borne out of envy and fear of the incumbent governor's imminent loss of the election.

The needless charade churned out by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)/Accord Party was an orchestrated plan to call a dog a bad name in order to hang it as the economic blue print being touted and mischievously credited to our governorship candidate is only existing in the imagination of the embattled Governor Adeleke and his cohorts.

Assuming without conceding that our governorship candidate popularly known as AMBO has prepared his economic blue print, he is sufficiently educated, knowledgeable and exposed to adequately explain in it how he intends to correct the copious verifiable wrong policies of the Adeleke government for lack of not knowing what to do and when to do it.

We want to state without mincing words that any time that AMBO intends to prepare his economic blue print, it is going to be a walk-over as it is a familiar terrain to him unlike a governor who has become a source of ridicule to the state because he is a stranger to his government which is being run for him by proxy through his siblings as it is known to all and sundry that the incumbent governor lacks what it takes to effectively run the state.

The right-thinking people of the state are now wiser and are fed up with the lies and subterfuge which have become the hallmark of the embattled Governor Adeleke that he has been using to run the state aground in all ramifications.

We understand the fear of Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers which is the imminent loss of the forthcoming governorship election due to his displayed glaring inefficiency in all fronts since he occupied the driver's seat in the administration of the state for over three years running.

To state that Governor Adeleke is grossly exhibiting the loss of confidence in the forthcoming governorship election is not an overstatement but a statement of fact as his conduct can be likened to someone who is manifesting the trait of death before his imminent death.

We are not unaware of the character whose imbecilic administration is a reflection of his personality in line with an aphorism that one can not give what he does not possess as it is reflecting in the series of Adeleke's maladministration and socio-economic cm political somersaults which are negatively impacting on the innocent people of Osun State.

The people of the state are now aware that Governor Adeleke and his cohorts have been unfortunately occupying the political theatre of the State of the Virtuous for the past three years to merely deceive the innocent people as his best in the office has refused to impact the state positively in any form simply because his government doesn't have any economic blue print but running the state by impulse.

We congratulate the people of the state for having AMBO as the APC governorship candidate who acquired necessary educational attainments early in life, possessed impressive working experience, armed with political proficiency and endowed with abundant awesome attributes required to govern a complex state like Osun unlike a former professional dancer and perfume seller in the foreign land.

The statement from the incumbent Governor Adeleke depicting that AMBO has come up with his economic blue print is another official gaffe by the perennially befuddled Osun State governor and we implore the good people of the state to discountenance it as it is suitable for the consignment to the dustbin of history.

We want to make it abundantly clear that when the time is ripe for AMBO to come with his economic blue print, it wouldn't be done under the table; it would be made public unhindered without having to publish same through the apparently confused and verifiably disoriented reactionary elements who are not only paranoid but are always afraid of their shadows for the fear of the imminent loss of the 8th August, 2026 governorship election.

Osun Council Poll:PDP Members Urge Governor Adeleke To Prevent Imposition of Candidates

2nd June ,2024

Some members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in local communities across Osun State have urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to intervene and disallow imposition of candidates on them during the forthcoming local council primary election.

In a press release issued by the Concerned Osun PDP Stakeholders on Saturday the group said,"Against the overall interest of Osun PDP members, some desperate party leaders have decided to impose candidates to the detriment of our great party.

"This plan, if allowed to fly, will inevitably cause agitations and protests across the board.

“We are, therefore, concerned that if this planned undemocratic selection of chairmanship and councillorship candidates are not looked into, it may spell doom for our party. Certainly, what we abhor is the disintegration of the party, ” the group noted.
