WHAT WILL YOUR PUPILS/ STUDENTS REMEMBER ABOUT YOU YEARS AFTER GRADUATION?
After many years outside classroom walls, I still remember some of my teachers. Vividly, I remember my primary and secondary school teachers; some years ago, I wrote a book which I dedicated to them for their impact in my life and for making my existence meaningful to myself and to the society.
In my primary school days, my class teacher (I can't remember her name) always gave all her pupils attention, she didn't teach for the sake of teaching but because she wanted to infuse knowledge and impact lives.
She would STUDY her pupils, UNDERSTAND them and make FRIEND with them. She had a logical method with which she infused knowledge in her pupils. Her effective teaching skills usually created a friendly and interactive sessions.
In my secondary school days, our Vice Principal, Mrs. Adeleke, was not actually meant to teach. Her position was just to supervise and make sure all works were done accordingly. But this woman would not rest. The school did not have a literature teacher, there was no one to fill in the space, but she did.
She did not only teach, she created an holistic environment with her students. She understood challenges each student was facing, came in with her support and also advised everyone.
She was not just a teacher, she was a listener! A Legend!
She understood and mastered the cognitive, effective and psychomotor skills of the teaching profession.
She understood that a teacher should not only teach in the class, she must study her environment.
As a teacher, teach beyond the classroom walls; understand your pupils/ students and leave a good impression in their hearts.
BE PROPERLY GUIDED.
