My first job shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time.

Your first job does not just give you a salary; it builds your professional operating system.

For many people, it is where they learn to doubt their competence, shrink their ambitions, and stay silent in rooms where they should speak.

It is where they are bruised emotionally. It is where a boss strips them of dignity & identity.

Looking back, one of the greatest gifts of my early career was my first manager, Franca I often say she was a good manager because she set me up to succeed. But it was more than that.

She instilled confidence & professionalism. She was patient while I was learning. She corrected me without humiliating me, guided me without controlling me & never made me feel small.

Most importantly, she never broke my confidence to prove her authority. She did not take my voice or crush my fragile young ego.

At the time, I thought that was normal.
Now, after years of experience, I know it wasn’t.

For many people, their first job is where mistakes become shame and creativity begins to disappear. A manager becomes someone to fear rather than someone who develops and strengthens.

The hardest part is that many people carry that experience for years. It shapes how they show up at work, how they manage others, and how they define professionalism. Their pain gets passed on.

When a young graduate enters a toxic workplace, that trauma does not disappear; it is only transferred. And when they eventually become managers, they often pass on the same dysfunction.

Because when you lead without healing, you bleed on those you are meant to lead.

The behavior of many supervisors & managers today is simply a trauma response. They were also victims of their first job.

And when you look at some employees, you will see that their dormancy, silence, passivity & lack of creativity are coping mechanisms born from abuse they once experienced.

That cycle needs to end.

Managers need to understand something deeper than targets & performance reviews:

You are not just managing performance.
You are shaping futures.

The impact of your leadership will outlive your time in the role!

Last weekend, I attempted the Guinness World Record for the Longest Leadership Lesson.
The idea came last August. At 3 a.m., I sent a DM to an inner circle friend and said, “I have a crazy idea. I want to attempt a Guinness World Record.” He replied almost immediately, “What category?” I told him the subject I am most passionate about: Leadership. The longest leadership lesson. 48 hours.
He responded, “That’s really crazy. But we can do it. Let’s set the ball rolling.” That was the spark I needed.
Over the following weeks, I prayed deeply, consulted mentors, studied every resource I could find, and began sharing the vision with people who would later become the core team behind the project.
This was a big leap into the unknown. Guinness guidelines required at least 10 seated participants actively engaged at all times. It was not just about teaching non-stop for 48 hours; the audience had to learn, respond, and stay present. The longest I had ever taught in one stretch before then was five hours. I had no idea what 48 hours nonstop would demand, but I was willing to take the leap.
My career has been built around teaching, training, and capacity buillding. Years of teaching in classrooms, workshops, conferences, and webinars had prepared the passion, the ability, and the competence. What I was not sure I had, in Goethe’s philosophy, was the magic.
At 1:20 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, the journey began.
I structured the lesson around four dimensions: Leading Self. Leading Others. Leading Organizations. And Leading Nations. For two days and two nights, we explored models, case studies, brainstorming sessions, and group discussions in a rigorous learning experience.
As we approached the 40th hour, everything changed. My voice weakened. My stamina dropped. My coordination slowed. At that threshold, I remembered Goethe's words clearly: “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”
The boldness was in the beginning. But now, the genius and magic were required in the finishing. And by God’s grace, strength came when I needed it most. The scriptures said it clearly, 'There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them [Me] understanding.' I am also grateful to my team for the cheers and the encouragement; thank you!
When the 48th hour finally arrived, the room erupted in cheers and ovations. But I was not done. I told the audience to hold on; we were going a little further. And at 48 hours, 13 minutes, and 43 seconds, I stopped on the final slide on civic leadership, closed the presentation, and dropped the microphone.
In the process, we surpassed the former record of 28 hours, 45 minutes by more than 19 hours and set a new record. The journey that started on Friday afternoon ended on Sunday afternoon at 1:33 p.m, May 3, 2026.
Mission accomplished. We now await official confirmation from Guinness World Records.
I am deeply grateful to Jesus, my glory and the lifter up of my head; my incredible team who showed up powerfully for me; every attendee, delegate, partner, and supporter. Thank You!
As Sir Edmund Hillary said, "It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”

We came in with notebooks.

We stayed through the night.

We fought sleep.

We drank coffee.

We asked questions nobody expected.

We laughed. We learned. We stayed.

And 48 hours later, the attempt was completed 🎉
