12 political parties set to host summit on peaceful elections in Osun

Chairmen of political parties in Osun State have announced plans to convene a peace summit aimed at promoting a peaceful, free, fair and credible governorship election ahead of the August 15, 2026 poll.

Speaking at a press briefing in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, said the summit was initiated by the Forum of Osun State Political Parties Chairmen to bring together key stakeholders in the electoral process for dialogue and consensus-building.

The Paramount Ruler of Ido-Osun Alayemore Kingdom, Oba Olayinka Oyetunde Ishola Jokotola II, has stated that the for a traditional institution to be relevant and effective, it must be anchored on experience, cultural heritage and connection with the grassroots.

Oba Jokotola disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing a meeting of traditional rulers across his kingdom.

According to a statement by the Director of Media and Communications to the Alayemore of Ido-Osun, Prince Okunoye Oluwaseyi Adesoji.

Bandit kingpin, Kachalla Muhammad, has said that he has not release the wife of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, as he had promised because he did not want security agencies to take credit for her release.

The retired major general and his wife were abducted while travelling to Katsina on Saturday, May 30, 2026.Their vehicle was ambushed along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area.

The abducted Principal of Community High School, Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Folawe Alamu, has appeared in a viral video from captivity, rejecting reports that her abductors are demanding a N1 billion ransom, weapons or the imposition of Sharia law in Nigeria.
