A Letter To My 16 Years Old Self
Dear Esther,
I know exactly what you're going through right now. You're 16 years old, and life is a whirlwind of responsibilities, challenges, and uncertainties. You're juggling school, helping Mom with her business, and taking care of your younger siblings. You wake up every morning before dawn to help with the business, rush off to school, and then hurry back home to take care of your siblings. It's exhausting, both physically and mentally.
Despite the chaos, you're doing your best to keep up. You're trying to balance your schoolwork, your family responsibilities, and your own desires and dreams. It's not easy, and there are times when you feel like you're drowning in a sea of expectations and obligations.
But here's the thing: you're doing better than you think. You're strong, capable, and resilient. You're learning valuable lessons every day, even if you don't realize it yet. And you're building a foundation for a bright and beautiful future.
As I look back on my own life, I've learned some valuable lessons that I wish someone had shared with me back then.
Here are 10 lessons learned and mistakes to avoid:
1. Don't be too hard on yourself:
You're going to make mistakes, and that's okay. Learn from them, but don't beat yourself up over them.
2. Take care of your mental health:
It's easy to get caught up in responsibilities, but don't forget to take care of your mind and emotions.
3. Ask for help when you need it:
You don't have to do everything on your own. Ask for help from family, friends, or teachers when you need it.
4. Prioritize your education:
I know it's tough to balance school with other responsibilities, but your education is crucial. Try to stay focused and prioritize your studies.
5. Don't compare yourself to others:
You're on your own unique journey, and comparing yourself to others will only lead to frustration and disappointment.
6. Be kind to yourself and others:
Treat others with kindness and respect, and be gentle with yourself when you make mistakes.
7. Take breaks and practice self-care:
It's essential to take breaks and recharge. Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you relax.
8. Don't be afraid to try new things:
You might fail, but you might also discover new passions and talents.
9. Forgive yourself and others:
Holding onto grudges and guilt can weigh you down. Practice forgiveness and let go of negative emotions.
10. Trust That Everything Will Work Out:
It's hard to see right now, but everything will work out. Trust that you're on the right path, and have faith in yourself and your abilities.
Remember, you're strong, capable, and loved. Keep pushing forward, even when things seem tough.
To all the young people out there, I hope these lessons inspire and guide you on your own journey.
With love and pride,
Esther Oluwafemi
Your Older self.
