๐ด BREAKING: Adeleke Dismisses Oyinlolaโs APC Endorsement, Hits Back at Oyinlola: โHe Said He Had No Car, I Gave Him a New Oneโ
OSOGBO โ Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed the recent political position of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, insisting that the former governorโs decision would not affect his chances in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke spoke during the Osun governorship election town hall aired by Arise News, where he was asked about Oyinlola and his reported support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The governor recalled Oyinlolaโs previous political relationship with him, saying the former governor had not supported his political ambitions on several occasions.
According to Adeleke, Oyinlola did not support him when he sought to contest for the Senate in 2000, nor during the 2018 Osun governorship election, which Adeleke described as a period when he was allegedly denied victory.
Adeleke also said Oyinlola did not support him during the 2022 governorship election, when he eventually emerged as governor of the state.
The governor recalled that Oyinlola had previously supported another political arrangement involving Fatai Akinbade, whom Adeleke described as one of the political figures brought into the race against him.
Adeleke further claimed that Oyinlola had at one point approached him in an attempt to settle their differences and avoid political confrontation.
The governor said he accepted the reconciliation effort because, according to him, he has a forgiving nature.
Adeleke also made a personal claim about his relationship with the former governor, alleging that Oyinlola once complained to him about not having a vehicle and that he subsequently provided him with a new car.
The governor, however, alleged that Oyinlola later changed his position again and decided not to support him in the forthcoming election.
Adeleke suggested that Oyinlola's latest decision could have been influenced by political considerations, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim.
He nevertheless said he was not concerned about the former governor's decision, maintaining that it would not determine the outcome of the election.
The governor's comments come against the backdrop of Oyinlola's reported endorsement of the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, alongside other former PDP chieftains in Osun State.
Oyinlola had reportedly said the decision was based on what he described as the wider interest of Osun State, while clarifying that he and the other PDP members involved had not formally left the party.
With the August 15 governorship election approaching, the endorsement has added another layer to the intense political contest between the ruling camp and the opposition in the state.
