A supportive husband is one of the greatest gifts a businesswoman can have.
Which of these four mistakes do you think happens most often?
I will love to hear your thoughts respectfully.
1. Do Not Hide the Business Finances from Him
If your husband is investing his money, time, connections or resources in the business, do not keep him completely in the dark.
Do not collect money from him for the business and refuse to explain how it was used. Keep proper records. Be honest about profits, losses, debts and major decisions.
However, this does not mean your husband must control every naira or dollar. It means there should be honesty, especially where his resources are involved.
2. Do Not Use the Business to Disrespect Him
As your business grows and your income increases, do not begin to speak to your husband as though you no longer need him.
Do not use statements like:
βI can take care of myself now.β
βAfter all, it is my money.β
βYou did not make me successful.β
Financial progress should improve your marriage, not become a weapon of pride.
Success does not give anyone permission to become disrespectful.
3. Do Not Treat His Support Like an Obligation
Your husband may give you money, help with the children, recommend customers, provide transportation or make sacrifices so you can focus on your business. Do not behave as he is simply doing his duty and does not deserve appreciation.
Support may be part of partnership, but gratitude keeps love and partnership strong.
Appreciate him privately and acknowledge his contribution when appropriate.
4. Do Not Forget Your Home Because the Business Is Growing
Do not allow the business to consume every conversation, every weekend and every moment of your marriage. Your husband should not feel like an unpaid employee, driver, investor or babysitter while receiving no attention as your partner.
Create time for your marriage.
Discuss responsibilities.
Ask how the business is affecting him.
A successful business should not leave behind a neglected relationship.
AS WE CLOSE
A supportive husband is not someone to exploit or take for granted
He is a partner to appreciate, respect and communicate with.
Build your business but also protect the person who stood beside you while you were building it.
